For the past few days I've been working on my very first minecart station, using the knowledge I had gained about redstone and WITHOUT the use of a tutorial. There are some "issues" that I still have with the station, however, it is fully functional at this moment.
It is very much in "raw state" with a lot of the wiring and such being out in the open. The reason for this is the fact that the world I've created it on will be somewhat of a museum of my creations. The world is not currently open for people to join and look around, however. That will come at a later, currently undecided date. When "open", everyone who is interested in learning some new things about redstone, or just like looking at redstone projects will be welcome to join.
I do warn you, I am not very creative when it comes to buildings. I am, however, proud of how the station looks... Take that as you will.
Without further delay, here are the pictures:
The stairs up to the station, the area is directly next to the spawn and is VERY hard to miss.
Looking into the station. The track selector in the back, completely controlled by pressure plates. The door on the left: Arrivals. Door on the right: Departures.
Arrival.
Departure.
VERY simple cart storage.
Possibly the simplest form of track selection.
The brains of the outfit, so-to-speak. Using the RS NOR Latch in this design allows me to use pressure plates for track selection. The repeater in the middle sends the signal back up to the repeater on the left, where it both lights the torch to indicate selection and switches the corresponding track.
Last, but certainly not least, my attempt at a solar oven.
I have a track station(so to speak) to. its more like a track swither. It to is in a very raw state. Unlike yours, i used pistons to switch the tracks instead of puting a redstone charge to the bend. The only problem with mine is that i have to push a reset button after each deparure. Im not sure if lag will effect it if I have more of these, to add more destintions.
ps. if you want to see my design, just shoot me a quick friend request and tell me you want to see it. I would like to see yours in person too but i understand you dont want people there yet.
Looks pretty sweet. I like the idea of it being right by the spawn. It could then spider web all around the map or have several one way routes like a subway system.
How are you going to do it?
I tried making a station but couldn't figure out a way to make a call button.
And what in the world is a solar oven?

I see your thread and I raise you the exact same thread.
Overall it looks like it is coming along nicely, good job!! I would suggest a pez dispenser for the minecarts as an upgrade. Once you fill them they don't have to be reloaded like your current set up.

^^^ That was my main critique.
That and the RS NOR latch array doesn't look to be selective, unless there's something I'm missing here. Other than that, it's not bad at all. The track selection, though simple, is perfect for something like this.

The world should be open by the end of the year, depending on how fast I get projects done. As for the track switching, originally I was going to use pistons. However, I figured that for right now, the simplest solution is the best. The wood trail along the RS NOR latches automatically resets the location chosen when someone rides over the detector rail.

How are you going to do it?
I tried making a station but couldn't figure out a way to make a call button.
And what in the world is a solar oven?
Well, I had not checked my map before creating the station, and the track selection system is pointing towards the bottom of the map, and I just so happen to be on the.... Bottom right. So, I will have to figure out what to do there. In fact, I've already got some ideas on how to make my mistake look good.
The idea is that each location a track goes to will be to a creation or to sets of similar creations. There will be another station somewhere around the middle of the map that will allow the tracks, that are leaving the creation(s) locations to converge onto one single line for the arrivals.
A solar oven is something that can consist of glass, cardboard and tin foil. It is used to cook whatever you want to put into it using nothing more than solar power. In this case, however, it is simply a joke. I actually made that to keep the rare spawning animal from jumping into one of the carts, until I get a much better system in place.
Overall it looks like it is coming along nicely, good job!! I would suggest a pez dispenser for the minecarts as an upgrade. Once you fill them they don't have to be reloaded like your current set up.
I figured the cart storage was the easiest to redo without much hassle. However, with the system I have set up, when you step on the pressure plate for the departures, it calls a cart and turns off the powered rail that is used for "take-off". Once you jump into the cart, the powered rail turns on and off you go to the track selection system.
Everything, beyond selection of the track, is completely automatic, including the return system. Which can be seen partially in the storage system picture. (It is the 2x1 hole in the ground). I do at some point plan on changing how the carts are stored and I thank you for your suggestion.
That and the RS NOR latch array doesn't look to be selective, unless there's something I'm missing here. Other than that, it's not bad at all. The track selection, though simple, is perfect for something like this.
You are not missing something. It is, indeed, not selective. That is something I will have to go back and change at some point. However, I simply wanted the system to be functional so I could go work on other projects. When I have a few done, I will go back and see how I can fix up the station to be even better than it is now.
So the tracks don't lead to anything yet?And I assume that you are doing all of this in creative on a flat world. Well I like what you have done. I need something like it near the spawn area of my map. With about 3000 m of track all most all underground I need a good central hub.

Yes, the tracks are connected to absolutely nothing right now. As soon as I start making other creations, they will lead to those.
Also, yes, this is all done on creative and on a super flat world. It might, in fact, be easier to do a more advanced station on a non-super flat world.
If you are trying to solicit my help to create a station for you, I will have to apologize. I've simply got too many projects lined up to be able to help. The best estimate I can give you is roughly a month and a half, maybe two months before I can even begin to think about building something for someone else.

Sorry, no I was not asking for help. I can tell that you are busy. No I was just saying that I may use some of your design ideas. I have actually made what people call a pez dispenser type system with a cart return in one of my areas already.
you could do with something like this for your track selection, 1 button with its own reset
If it could be adapted for use with pressure plates, I will consider the design. Thank you.
The whole point of using pressure plates is the fact that I don't trust people enough to allow them to have the build/mine permission on while looking at potentially sensitive redstone creations. Especially ones that need precise timing. So, if I'm able to adapt everything to using pressure plates, I can rest easy that no one can screw anything up for anyone else who might be in the world at the same time.

Alright, I misunderstood. I have no problems with other people using my designs. The whole point of the creation of this world is to be used as a teaching tool for some basic to advanced redstone creations. The station just happens to be a functional part of that idea.

Finished. Turns out, it's ridiculously easy. I was thinking about it all wrong the first few times. This new design is infinitely expandable, and each latch outputs in 4 ticks, and sets in 5 ticks.
^^^ Just an overview.
^^^ These are the latches I'm using this time around. It doesn't matter what design you use, but these are the fastest, they set and reset in 2 ticks. Also, I chose it because it's perfect if you want an output under your memory cell.
^^^ Branch your signal from the button. If you're using the RS NOR latch design I am, add a 3-tick delay to the input. If not, just make sure to have enough delay that it takes your latch at least 5 ticks to set.
^^^ Extend the other branch to control your pistons, make sure you have some repeaters here so the signal can hit all pistons. Also make sure the line doesn't go directly over the set torch on your latch. Place a torch on a block for your piston to push a block on top of, to reset the latches.
^^^ This is the handy thing about these latches. You can place a line directly under the output without much trouble.
Just follow the functionality of my array and apply it to your design. All you need is to branch a line and add some delay. The reset for when a minecart exits the station is even easier, just extra busing. Just set it up so every pressure plate resets every latch, then sets the selected latch one tick afterwards.
See, I could never do complicated Redstone stuff like track selections. My track selection is: "go to the track with the sign saying the destination you want, hop into the cart, and push the button."

Once again, thanks for the design, it seems like the best idea, I just need to adapt it to going down rather than up and to use pressure plates as opposed to buttons, shouldn't be hard at all.
However, I am taking a break from the station to allow myself time to think of any other improvements I might find worth implementing. In the mean time, I've started creating the "exhibits" in the world. To give myself an idea of how to space them and how to connect them.

That is a fine strategy and I used that for quite awhile on some of my own worlds. It takes a bit of practice with redstone mechanics and knowing how to hook them together to achieve the desired effect. That's something, I believe, pretty much any redstone engineer would say.

Track selectors are just an array of modified SR latches. If you look at it, piece by piece, they're actually insanely simplistic in function. This is beginner-intermediate stuff. I'd say leaning towards intermediate, but still nowhere near the master level machines that process data based on scientific algorithms I don't even understand.

Yes I remember, I'm not saying you have to use my design, I'm just showing it as an example of how to make yours selective. Branch into one extra reset wire from input, delay the set wire and it will function exactly the same way mine does. It will just be a lot less compact, but on the other hand, it will be faster because of it.
Does anyone have any suggestions for creations or a set of similar creations to show off? I've only two in mind at the moment, leaving six destinations open for suggestions.

Do you have a different theme for each destination?
i.e. Mechanical, (based primarily around pistons - doors, elevators, transporters, conveyors) maybe one for defense mechanisms, (traps, TNT cannons, arrow turrets, alarm systems) Computer Science, (based primarily on circuit logic - basic logic gates, memory cells, flip flops, decoders/encoders, arithmetic machines - I would gladly contribute to this one.) perhaps another section for the absolute basics. (hard power VS soft power, interactivity between blocks and different redstone items, glowstone logic, [when it becomes possible] unorthodox examples of how a signal can be transferred, using torches, repeaters, and eventually glowstone)
I'm sure you could come up with a couple more ideas for the remaining areas. It would just be a nice way to keep everything organized.

Nice attempt to steal someone's thread. But no, we're not clicking that.
That's actually a great suggestion! I'll probably end up doing that.
