Nice! I will make a post of mine. Your is realy awesome looking and the pillers are epic. i wish i were a good builder. Post more pics please. Btw maybe you could show us some of you other things???
so long as there 'air' blocks, i.e steps, half slabs then you can open them,
this is how you make lockable storage chests, have a piston push 2 steps over the storage box replacing a solid block, if all 3 are wooden you would never know
Yes, but they're considered "transparent" or "non-opaque" blocks. Air is a specific block, part of the same family. Glass is also transparent (obviously) as well as torches, fenceposts, beds, leaves, tall grass, cake, flowers, ice, and in a future update, glowstone. I probably even missed a few.
Honestly, I like it. I think the outside looks nice just as it is. I, also, like the pillars on the inside. I do think dressing it up a little on the inside wouldn't hurt. Maybe raw wood for the floor or some other kind of block that will make it look nice. You could incorporate a design in the main entrance's walls. This would be especially nice if you are planning on digging out another room for the chests. I'm fond on carving out 4x4 squares (1 block from the floor) into the walls and putting one double chest in them with another right in front of it so it looks like stairs. You could even line the floors with chest and use them like that. <-Not great if you like to label everything like I do. Anyway, it's a nice built and has a lot of promise for adding little details on to.

I am a Minecraft tourist. I am currently unavailable under the XBoxLIVE ID listed here but can be found under ZombieL0C0. If you see me online playing Minecraft, send a message and I will gladly take a stroll through your world.
yea. sorry to tell ya but someone just posted a pic of a creeper temple and your outside building looks exactly the same (on a smaller scale) plus the pillars look similar to his design.... maybe build it up to make something really unique on the outside..... its not bad, just could use something to make it stand out from other peoples structures. this is a cool idea kind of a fort knox built into a mountain. keep working on it and good luck.
Hey that's pretty cool! That must've been a pain carving all that out then hollowing it out on the inside, dealing with dirt and gravel, the replacing all the dirt and gravel spots with Stone.
Points of Critisim if I may
On the corners of the inside pillars, I think Glowstone on top of a fence post would look better then torches.
Perhaps a slight bit more of variation and design on the interior? That's being picky but through the middle in between the pillars, for example, have a straight line of regular cobblestone. Something like that always makes it a bit more interesting.
This ones a given and I'm sure your planning on it, A grand walkway leading up to it. Grand so it matches the epicness of the main exterior monument.
You said something about a security system earlier, I would quote it but for whatever reason I can't find it again :b
At least i think you did. Anyways, How would you go about doing so exactly? I've never really looked to far into making security systems with chests.
Hidden level which unlocks a secret room?
Yeah I didn't use any glow stone because I'm waiting for 1.2.3 to go to the nether. Yup, I'm going to build a grand walkway, and for the security, I might make a lever to a secret room.
I like to create a border for the wall and floor with the same material, like this:
-snip-
Then again, I'm not into the whole architectural pretty looking stuff. I just think it looks cool.
You definitely already have a better storage area than mine. The storage area for all of my maps tend to just be a hole in the ground, with a hallway. xD I do have one I think looks kinda neat though, but it's not super fancy or anything:
I thought you couldn't place anything above chests or they wouldn't open?
I love the design on the OP's outside. The inside, as has been said, could use some sprucing up. Perhaps a nice geometric pattern in the floor using sandstone, smooth stone, and cobble, that way you don't end up looking for a ton of wool or gold or iron to make different color blocks.
Sandstone would look cool, I also have enough iron and gold for blocks too.
I think it looks pretty sweet. IMO, I would put the stone half slabs on the corners of the pillars too. Looks kind of funny to me with the gap at each corner but that is just me.
As for your chests, I would def put them in the wall and not up and down the aisle along the wall. That would make it look too cluddered.
I tried doing the half slabs on the corners, it didn't look very good. Yeah, I'm going to do something special with the chests.

I'm sure you're quite a good builder too, just look for inspiration. As for other things, the only things I have is a castle and a small village. My sister has one too.

I have an uber cool idea for the floor plus walls, thanks to you and other people!
or you could make it so the chests are dug into the floor, and exposed by pistons when you enter your cool building? Do agree that you should try and break up the stone in the walls a bit though.
you could also tile the floor with a checker pattern using chests, then you would have massive storage, without it being too obvious, especially if you only used certain chests, then any visitors would be have to guess which chests had the goods

Ahh, yes I saw that. However my build was finished before he posted the thread (Or at least until I saw it). Thanks I really like you comment, very informative.

I don't like the look of chests, especially on the floor. Also, no one else plays my world, so I don't need to hide my stuff.

I love the pillars and the entrance style. I would hope that you don't forget the details outside. I think it would look really cool with some "vines" in the stone wall (by putting wood in the 2 deep in the wall hidden by leaves flush w stone). Bushes, trees, overgrown grass from bonemeal, gravel or stone path and lighting. Your entrance should be as epic as your storage.

Hmm... I'll consider it, but this building was not supposed to be run-down/old. Maybe I should make it that.

It needs to be a little more lit up, don't be shy with the glow stone!
Excellent. c;
Have the floor made out of planks.
Have glowstone light the room.
Other than that pretty good!

This has given me some ideas, thanks!
That's pretty cool, except that I don't really like the look of it. It just doesn't suit my style.
Sandstone would look cool, I also have enough iron and gold for blocks too.
Thanks, the picture turned out darker than what it actually was.

Wow, that looks so cool! I love the way you used the sandstone!
As I said above, I won't have access to glow stone until 1.2.3. I also hope I motivated you some!
I have an uber cool idea for the floor plus walls, thanks to you and other people!
That would be cool, I never thought of that.
Yeah, I answered all of those above. Thanks!
Thanks, glad you like it.
Yep, thanks for being honest.

I would use stone brick, but this is on the Xbox 360 Edition.
I don't like the look of chests, especially on the floor. Also, no one else plays my world, so I don't need to hide my stuff.

Also, I like how you make vines, neat idea.
