Is this something I have to go into the Xbox Marketplace either on the console or on my PC to download? Or is this an automatic download that once it is available and I fire the game up, it will prompt me to download?

I'm not sure how many of you have realised what this updates signifies. The console has finally caught up to the PC!!!
Sure it doesn't have XY and Z, but as far as Survival goes they're pretty much equivalent. So after watching the console drift further and further away from its predecessor, even as much as a year and a half (based on release dates for content) the two versions now practically mirror each other. I have to say, I thought it would never happen.
ps - Yes, I know at the time the update is not actually out, but C'mon!, we all know it's a done deal and it'll be here in a couple days.
Just repeatedly clicking "Check for update" and hoping it changes before I sleep..
They removed the static / fuzzy banner on their twitter when they announced WiiU Edition so it might not come today. But...come oooon 4j I'm just hoping it comes later in the day

Erm... you do know that it's completely out of 4J's hands now, right? It's all up to MS and Sony at this point.

But they know when it's coming out. Seems odd to do the teaser-image-fuzzy-banner for something they openly said would be released today. And I bet they have some aspect of control over approximately synchronizing releases of the update between platforms.

I've not been playing since Minecraft has had an update. Been at it only about 6 months. Are these changes and new items applied across the board, both in already saved seeds, as well as new seeds entered or randomly generated by "Create new world?" I seem to remember reading somewhere here that they are only applied in new created worlds.

Anything that is generated when you first create a seed will not be added to existing worlds, ores, structures, what have you. New crafting and game mechanics will be available on previously generated maps. For example: a new block like granite will not be found on an already existing map, water temples won't be on those seeds either. However, on an existing seed you will be able to use new recipes such as crafting slime blocks, newly spawned villagers should have professions, enchanting will follow the new mechanics, etc.

Gotcha. That's make sense. Thank you for the reply.
