mojang will also mark your words, and now will definitely take longer than spring just to spite you
Well, I guess that's fine since Mojang doesn't make the Console versions of the game. Plus, no game company is going to delay an update to spite a member of their community.
Xbox has basically gotten half of each of these updates
1.4: more than half
1.5: only like 3 items (give or take)
1.6: only one item
So they didn't make half of this update. Don't always think that an update like this will come out so early, guys. I've seen the same mistake made with both TU 12 and TU 14. I expect maybe March 2015.
I'm pretty sure that the update will come out sooner than it would usually take. With Microsoft working with Mojang, there are more employees to work on the update, which would speed up the process significantly.

We're not expecting it "early". We're expecting it at reasonable times I think.
No way this is gonna take 5 months. I think February at the latest.

Though, if you remember TU12, it was announced mid-May, there were so many people predicting late June to Early July, and it wasn't released until late August to early September, about three months for one major update, and this one covers three major updates, and I'm seeing people saying that it will only take a month and a half, so I think my prediction is justified.
TU 12 added new generations. A new biome. New mobs, texture pack support, tons of features from 1.4 and a whole re-done mob AI system.
The only game changing update in this 3 update cycle is 1.5 and that only changes redstone mechanics. The Wither and Wither skeletons. A few little tweaks to the nether/bats and witches, Horses. The rest of it is adding items/blocks. Is you think about it, it's smart they are adding these all together because separately these would have been small/weak updates to standard.
There is no new Biomes/or major changes to game mechanics. No new world spawn systems, no new support systems. It's just basically another update.
1.8 took so long in 2012, longest update we had to wait for I believe (until now ofc) but that also changed the game completely. I don't believe this will take nearly as long.

You also missed fireworks and beacons, which to my knowledge will have quite an impact for the game. Also, didn't 1.8 just have ocean monuments, guardians, elder guardians, endermites, trading changes, shaders, and slime blocks as major features (I could be wrong as I don't play PC)?
Maybe I'm a bit slow on the uptake here... but where was it confirmed that the next Title Update would be TU20? It seems that TU18 would be the next Title Update in line, especially since we are currently on TU17.

I'm pretty sure that it's TU17, as the last update named by 4J was TU16. Yeah, I noticed as well, I just never got to mentioning it.

While I agree that there is something satisfying about receiving a whole mess of new features all at once, I actually wouldn't mind at all if they released small updates once a month or so. "Hey, this month: recipe for mossy stone brick. Next month: bats." etc. They can even make them surprises, like the Seecret Friday Updates from yesteryear.
If nothing else it will make all this baseless speculation of release time and content, etc. go away.

OK, THAT makes a lot more sense. When I saw 1.8, I thought of the update that just came out for PC. Sorry about that.
its definitely NOT going to be released in 2014 it will be in 2015 at the least because think about it, it took almost a year to make tu14 for xbox 360 and ps3 but then when you add 3 more consoles in the mix (xbone,ps4,ps vita) and it's 3 updates in one it's obviously going to take a long time. Unless microsoft ups 4j studios staff this is going to take forever

It will likely take awhile due to the size of the update... but it won't take 3-5 times as long. 4J updates 1 piece of code, then compiles that code separately for 5 different consoles, the additional time will largely be due to fixing platform specific bugs that occur between the different console compilations. It isn't like they will be effectively re-writing the same code 5 times.

No problem, seeing as you said you're new to the whole scene.
