Yeah, I figured it as much that it was just a placeholder... and that's the disc version of the game and not the downloadable copy. Just found it hilarious that a Christian site was interested enough in Minecraft that they posted that on their site.
Yeah it doesn't seem to be the type of content they would normally post, that's for sure. Hopefully their statement about the digital version releasing months before the disc version is right though. It would make a lot of sense and prevent an even bigger delay.
I don't think that was what he was really trying to say, only that a post about Minecraft seems a little out of place among the other things they usually post.
I came across this reddit post which subsequently linked out to this blog post -- it's supposedly a rumored E3 list for MS. I imagine companies release controlled, semi-accurate information like this to generate excitement, but it's really impossible to know if any of it is genuine (though interestingly, an E3 list for Sony was also leaked the same day).
I didn't see Minecraft in the list and if the leak turns out to be accurate, I'm not sure whether that means we're more likely to see the X1 edition before or long after June 9th. Including MC in their presentation would indicate either an immediate or upcoming release -- which means not including it in their presentation implies an earlier or much later release.
So following that logic, those sites stating a late summer release might not be that far off. I'm still holding out hope that 4J can release this month though. Even better if they do a surprise release this Friday, though that's looking EXTREMELY unlikely now.
Their silence regarding next-gen Minecraft is either due to ( a ) them doing a Pre-E3 surprise release, ( b ) the game being featured at E3, or ( c ) another big delay that they're hoping will be forgotten if they simply ignore it. If we still don't have any news a month from now, I guess we'll know which is to blame.
E3 is just over a month away which isn't that much longer but I am hoping for an anniversary release on Friday. I'm sure it will be released much later though.
I'm so glad the worlds won't be infinite. I hate them so much. It's sad that it took people constantly bugging 4J in order for them to tell us something. You can tell by how they started the announcement on Twitter by saying "Fine!"
It needs to release in June. There are only 3 games that we know of right now that are coming in June. Murdered: Soul Suspect, EA Sports UFC, and Valiant Hearts: The Great War.
That's it. The Elder Scrolls Online got pushed back six ******* months so now that leaves June extremely bare. I really doubt they'll announce anything more than maybe 1 game, maybe 2, that might come out in June at E3 since it's near the beginning of the month. June would be the opportune time for 4J to release it though.
School gets out most places in the US in June. There are few other games for it to compete with. Everyone really wants it.

I think Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark releases in June also. To be fair, I think there's only 3 major releases in May -- The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Wolfenstein, and Watch Dogs. There will always be other titles to compete with, especially with all the indies starting to wrap up their games. Games like Ninjitsu and Super Time Force are just the first wave, you'll likely start seeing a flood soon after E3. Based on price alone, I think Minecraft is more likely to compete with those types of games rather than AAA releases. Given the option between Minecraft and Watch Dogs, people are more likely to go the cheaper route. Given the option between Minecraft and 2 indie titles, many people would choose the latter.

On a different note, I saw that Daniel Kaplan posted this on Twitter today...
Realms? We are in talks with MSFT and Sony about it. Dont know when though. First we need to release the game on xbone/ps4
They probably haven't had anything significant to say anyway.Like has already been said at least they didn't make a load of promises they didn't keep.I will be getting it regardless of when, don't understand all the big deal about the cloud though thought that was supposed to help with things like saves etc. not being on the console so to speak.
The cloud is basically for creating automatic backups, having dedicated servers, and taking some of the processing load. That's what I've noticed anyway. The saves still need to be a reasonable size to exist on the hard drive though.
Nobody is really asking them to make promises they can't keep, but information about some of the confirmed features would be nice. We know next to nothing about the next-gen features they've been talking about, only that they're there. Bigger worlds? How much bigger? Bigger multiplayer? What does THAT mean? If they truly have no news to talk about right now, then that means we are months and months from seeing a release. Features are generally set in stone early in the development cycle and should be virtually complete by this point, with the last mile being devoted to playtesting, debugging, and streamlining.
If a release truly is imminent, then the lack of updates likely comes down to the publisher holding that information for some planned future event or presentation. E3 comes to mind. Of course we don't even really know if a release is imminent, we're just assuming since the game was expected back in March.

For that matter, it's probably more important that they need to be a reasonable size to exist in the cloud too. Saving a 1GB file to my hard drive every 30 minutes won't affect my system much (if at all), but saving a 1GB file to the cloud every 30 minutes would SUCK. If I recall, saves exist in both places so hopefully there's a system in place to restrict how often cloud saves are updated.
Saves do exist in both I'm sure. When I uninstalled and re-installed Deadrising 3 to attempt to get past a glitch that is preventing me from getting the last achievement, it immediately recovered my save file.
We desperately need official statements because the Minecraft Wiki says it will be released in December. Although they are getting their info from Walmart who also says it will cost $60. They clearly have no idea what they're talking about but we have nothing else to go on.
We're currently trying out a world size increase of 36 times the area of the Xbox 360/PS3 world
If the X360 world size is 862x862, then 36 times that size comes out to 5172x5172. Not bad.
Though the usage of the phrase "currently trying out" seems to imply that they are very much still in development of the game. If so, we may not even see a release by E3.
That's correct.
Saw this while Googling for news...
