When minecraft win10 came out with addons I knew immediately that I wanted to make some. I figured out how to add them and how to turn the zip into mcpacks. So I made a test mod, and successfully made pigs drop cow loot when killed (beef and leather). One of my other test mods doesn't work. My goal was to make creepers fall lightly like chickens. I looked in the chicken code and copied the line that looked right, into the creeper behavior.
This didn't work, and I had the pig mod in the same one to make sure the add on was installed properly, which it was. This code and the 0 fall damage code seemed to be the only ones related to the floating behavior, so what went wrong? Is mob movement like this impossible to add on to other creatures? I looked into blaze files and saw nothing related to its ability to fly. Since this float code is in so many mobs I think it has to do with swimming, but then how do chickens float?
Heres another question I have, is it possible to "add" mobs by making them "variants". Most add on replace existing creatures, however an addon called PlusMobs added variations to existing mobs that have a chance of spawning, so they dont replace the original. For example they made a bow wielding zombie, and a giant zombie. Are these random variants customizable to the same extent as a regular mob, to the point where its essentially a new mob?
How version compatible are addons? Has Mojang made any statements that addons will need to be updated in order to work after a minecraft update? I dont exactly want these early addons I make to become completely unplayable next month.
How can I implement working mob models? I know many addons use custom models for their changes, I made some awesome looking creatures in techne, and I would like a short tutorial on how to port these models over to add ons so they animate properly if anyone can find one or tell me.
Last question. Will addons always be exclusive in modifying mobs? I know this is essentially a modding api, but its limited by its ability to only modify mobs. So will eventually block addons, item addons, and biome addons be added later down the line? If so is there any information on when these add on features may drop?
Im just looking for anyone who knows enough to answer some of these questions I have for the new feature of addons. I hope to continue making addons for Minecraft win10 / PE for a while. Thanks for Reading.
There is quite alot to explain when it comes to addons in relation to what is actually possible, if you need some one on one help "a tutor of kinds" and you have the xbox app just add me there and i can help you out with whatever questions you may have.

That one I think I can answer.
That's one of the neat things about add-ons: they are not version specific like "mods" are. They'll keep right on working if the game is updated. You no longer have to play old versions of the game (you can't go back anyway), therefore missing out on any new features or bug fixes.
(Why the java folks continue to put up that "mod" nonsense and then have the guts to call it a "feature" is beyond me...)
However, just so you know, there's one bad thing about add-ons. If you use one, Achievements are disabled in that world forever (Yes, even if it was Survival only). Quite understandable if you think about it.
