My daughter got lost flying around and can't find her house now. Since the Win10 beta doesn't have coordinates to help, does anyone know how she can get back? She spent a lot of time making her house and would be devastated to loose it. We heard about the trick to die and regenerate in her bed but she is in creative mode and can't seem to die.
We are still pretty new to minecraft and would appreciate any help you can provide. Thanks.
There's not much to do other than the "Columbus" method: just wander around till you discover it and then land on it.
You can't die in creative. You have to switch to survival to die (just jump in a lava pool or turn on the hostile mobs and stand there and let them kill you).
We heard about the trick to die and regenerate in her bed...
You heard wrong. If you die, you respawn at your Spawn Point, not your bed.
BTW, a Compass always point to your Spawn Point, not your bed, also- which is why I always recommend building "home" near your spawn point. That way no matter how far you wander, the Compass always points to "home". (When starting out, if you don't like your "spawn point", or where you start in the world, just make another world. I probably go through 1-4 dozen worlds before I find one I like. Messy, but worth it.)
Another BTW: Maps (hopefully w/coordinates) will be in the next update (0.14.0!), along with a bunch of other goodies! Too late for your daughter, though.
What to do for now? Make a tall, one block tower. Get a Compass and fly off in one direction for a while. If you find your home, great, if not, reverse direction till you find your tower again, then set off in a new direction. Repeat till you find home. (Once Maps come out, which should be shortly, be sure and write down the coordinates of home!... if you can find it.)
???? So you're saying it doesn't remember your new spawn point/the last bed you slept in once the game is restarted or world reloaded?
As Spock would say.... "Fascinating".
(I'm surprised that Win10 will let you change the spawn point at all, even temporarily).
EDIT: did my own test and can confirm what Cherry said. Restarted game, deleted bed #2, died, and thought I would spawn at bed #1, but spawned at original spawn point.
EDIT #2: Another test.
1- Restarting the game resets the Spawn Point to the original one. (Edit: Wrong- see below)
2- Compass will always point to the original Spawn Point, no matter how many slept-in beds you have.
EDIT #3: Final test.
1- Restarted MC, made #1 bed, slept in it, died, respawned at #1 bed (but you knew that from the above posts).
2- Made #2 bed, slept in it, died, respawned at #2 bed.
3- Now the real test. Went back to #1 bed, slept in it, died, respawned at #1 bed.
4- Quit the game. Restarted MC, died, spawned at #1 bed!!!!!!!!
5- Quit that world, loaded another. Quit MC, restarted game, loaded world, slept in #2 bed, died, respawned at #2 bed!
SO:
* You can change the spawn point you'll respawn at by sleeping in a bed. This applies whether you switch modes, open another world, or even quit MC and reload the world. (Note: this is a Win10 exclusive, but might work the same way in PE.)
* (Warning.) The respawn point is the last bed you slept in.
* The Compass will always point to the original spawn point, regardless of how many beds you've slept in.
I'm not familiar with Win10's Minecraft, but if it saves its worlds in the standard format you can download mcEdit and open the world with that. You can zoom around pretty quick and easy with it, I've used it to find things several times for people.
Are you sure? I'm almost positive that on my single player maps, I can sleep in a bed, and this resets my spawn point to that bed, which also then changes my compasses to point back to that spawn point.
When you start a base, just write down the coords. Easiest solution I have a text file I keep in my games folder with notes on Minecraft for various servers I play on, stuff like that.
Yeah I prefer not to add mods and wait til added in game in an update. Til then I always build near spawn and use compass .and use torches or paths to explore.
Maps still not make much sense to me as the bigger maps don't seem to show things like villages etc and the 1/4 maps don't cover much of an area so am sticking to my compass for now.
if you get completely lost i switch to creative and fly using a compass to navigate. Not help much tho if house not near spawn:(

Of course I have to test it out for myself.
Have a "Test World".
Flew in Creative to a Village.
Placed down a Bed
Changed to Survival.
Slept in the Bed.
Wandered off.
Found River.
Drowned myself.
Spawned at Bed! (Like I said, all Minecraft's are not the same! I admit I was wrong. However, not done yet!)
Back to Creative, went off a ways, put down a second Bed, slept in it. Now where will I spawn when I die?
By the second Bed!
Still not done!
Back to Creative, went off a ways, put down a 3rd Bed.... but didn't sleep in it. Drowned myself again. Now where would I respawn?
By the second Bed!
SO, based on my tests, in Win10, your Spawn Point is reset to the last Bed you slept in. (Does not work that way in the java version!.... maybe.)
Learn something new everyday....

saves are pocket edition format if that helps
Use a compass
A compass only works if build/built your "home" near the spawn point. See my post #3.

I'm sure.
Create an new Test World and see for yourself (I just did... again.)
A Compass will always point to your original spawn point (bed or no bed).
Beds just create a new "respawn point" if you die. A Compass will never point to them.
Yep, tested last night on a realm. That's a little annoying - I like to base pretty far from spawn, especially on realms.
When you start a base, just write down the coords. Easiest solution I have a text file I keep in my games folder with notes on Minecraft for various servers I play on, stuff like that.
Great advice (!) and would work like a charm.... if Win10 had coordinates.
Yea, I forgot about that. A quick Googling though turned up:
Knew someone would come up with that!
(When coordinates are added, won't that add-on be moot?)
Yep, but until it's added I can see where it'd be handy
