All official info said the Windows 10 beta is free to everyone who "already owns" pc version Minecraft, and that info is already several months old.
If I purchase Minecraft (the Java version that's $26.95) now, will I still get the free Windows 10 Beta version offer? Has anyone purchased the Java version after the launch of Windows 10 beta version and still got both games?
I'd like to know as I don't own either yet and trying to decide which to buy. Obviously if I can get both for the price of the PC version, I'm more likely to go that route, but if not I'm more tempted toward the $10 beta...
The "free" offer (for owners of the java version) is good for one year from Win10 Beta release.
Remember that Win10 is only $10 (but it's basically PE), while the java ("full") version is $27... but you get the Win10 version "free". Your choice.
Personally, since I'm not into "servers", multiplayer, mods, needlessly added junk, etc., I haven't played the java version in... forever. Besides, the Win10 version runs so much better, I wouldn't put up with the java version now if you paid me.
Thanks. That makes my choice harder. I know what you mean: the Win10 version would be much more pleasant to run. I tried running the Java version demo on my i5 laptop but it stutters even with low render distance. Disappointing.
But then again I'd like the full features of the Java version too, if not for the servers, at least for the End and horses and stuff. I own PE for Android and while the features are almost good enough, it'd be nice to have those extras and options like multiplayer server when I feel like 'em. But then who knows, they might eventually update the Win10 version to match the Java version in all features except mods (I prob won't get into them anyway), in which case it would prove a bit of a waste to spend more for the Java version that I'd rarely play.
Now if Mojang were to scrap java and write another "full" version just for computers in C++, that would be awesome. (You can see what C++ does for MC!)
However, that brings it's own problems- everything would have to be rewritten too, including mods, server software, skins (including custom ones), texture packs... everything! Since you're changing programming languages, none of the old java stuff will work. Another problem is C++ isn't "universal" like java is, so you'd have to have a Windows version, a Mac version, a Linux version, etc., etc., plus the headache of keeping each of them up to date.
I say that wheel has already been invented, skip the old stuff and write (the long overdue) MC2.

The answer to your questions is "yes".

I wouldn't count on it being updated to the java version- don't forget it has to run on a phone!
But there are changes on the way.
