I don't think anyone has said that it was better. Though it does have cross-platform capabilities with MCPE users, and will get updated with its MCPE counterparts as well.
Unless your question was specifically asking why the game runs better?
Right now its just layin down the foundation for a less laggy, unoptimized experience with cross-platform capabilities between Windows, Xbox, and Mobile.
It'll be a while before this catches up with the current Java version. But once it does it will have more robust online features and Xbox integration.
Optimization is the big one for me. Java MC is such garbage in comparison.
'with cross-platform capabilities between Windows, Xbox, and Mobile'
Has Xbox compatibility been confirmed?
The Windows 10 Edition already is targeting all devices running Windows 10 (you can check the AppxManifest for the app), which means it already can run on Xbox if the UWP core is present (it's not).
You'll have to wait until Microsoft allows universal apps to run on Xbox before Minecraft can run on it. It's not exactly clear when this will be but Microsoft has demo'ed universal apps running on Xbox before.
Can you explain where your logic comes from because they're already giving Win10 for free. I highly doubt they needed Minecraft to court users into upgrading.
The only ones that don't are luddites that think its edgy to hate on Microsoft like its 2005.

you keep using the word upgrade, its not its a whole other game. Microsoft bought minecraft to convert everybody over to there system and there way of doing things so they could rake in the extra money. A great example of this is requiring w10 mc users to sign into there microsoft account and force them to use Xbox gamertags....... im not on xbox and thats stupid. Id much rather have my mojang username (which is not happening now with w10 mc.) and instead to change my xbox gamertag, then want 10 bucks. Here comes the money train everybody!
W10e is going to always have the same core features as PE and Xbox, w10e, pe, and xbox will be able to cross platform with eachother soon. W10e will get more secondary features (settings) than pe and xbox, but thats because those settings cannot be handled properly on those platforms.
It wont be too long before people start making mods and messing with w10e, heck, people have already changed the settings for render distance to a much larger area (ref. Antvenoms w10e video)
This is an old thread (7 months), and a lot has changed since. The original question was "Why is MCW10E better than normal MC?
* It's better because of how it runs compared to the java version, it's the only version that's cross-platform (runs on phones, tablets, and computers), and it's the only version that's compatible with another version (PE) which means iOS & Android phones & tablets can also chime in.
* But it only runs on Windows 10. Instead of the "universal java" (any OS that runs java can run it), it uses C++. An oblivious advantage is speed, speed, and more speed, plus a much more capable programming language (Mojang has pushed java way beyond what it was originally designed to do). However, C++ is also OS specific and that means Mac, Linux, etc. OS users are out in the cold (I've not seen where there'll be a "Mac version" or a "Linux version").
* Mojang has said: "Development on this version of the game has been coming along pretty quickly, and it will only be a matter of time before it is on par - if not nearly so - with the desktop Java version." (News page, MC forum). Interesting! We never knew that the Big Picture was, or an idea of where Mojang/MS plan on taking Win10 (and PE). Obviously, this won't happen overnight- it's been out 7 months now and we still don't have pistons. I'm thinking a year+ or more from now, compounded by the problem that the java version will be up to 21.0 or 22.0 by the time Win10 "catches up". (As someone said, "It's tough to catch a moving target"). Lucky for PE users, they're just along for the ride by default.
* Xbox and Win10. Everyone thinks because both use the same OS (Windows 10), they should be able to play together. Wrong. The only reason Win10 and PE can play together is because they're the exact same game, with the same features, world sizes, etc. Until Win10 and Xbox (One!) become the same game, they'll never be able to cross-play. Wait you say! But Extreme_Heat said above that they could, but "You'll have to wait until Microsoft allows universal apps to run on Xbox before Minecraft can run on it." But MS has to approve that by app. Yes, eventually you'll be able to run PC programs on Xbox One.... but at this time the plan for now is to add the ability to run Word and Excel. (Why the heck would you want to run Word or Excel on a console????). Minecraft is way down the list, if it (or any game) is on the list at all. I know some of you think the world revolves around MC, but there's games that have sold more copies in 24 hours than MC has sold in 5 years. Oh yea, BTW, you can forget any 360, Sony consoles, or WiiU cross-play. It's a Windows 10 world now.
* Xbox and Win10 #2. Let's make it even more interesting. In order for there to be any cross-play between the One and Win10 (and PE), all 3 would have to be the same game with the same features, and they would have to be kept in sync. This will involve much more cooperation and coordination between Mojang and 4J. If it happens, that also means waiting until all 3 versions are ready with the same update at the same time- I see even longer delays between updates.
* Xbox and Win10 #3. I think the best we can hope for is the ability to move our world saves. 14.0 gave us the ability to save the world files. That still is dependent on the two games being just alike!
* However, Win10 is not better because no customization from/like the java version will work with Win10. Different programming language. So no mods, custom texture & resource packs, server software... basically forget any of that "free" java stuff you've grown to know and love (and expect Win10 to have). However, there will be texture packs, skins, etc. as DLC. (MS has to recoup that $2.5B somehow). Mods=updates. As for custom skins: https://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-on-windows/game-titles/custom-skins-minecraft-windows-10-edition-beta Hey, at least you don't have to buy their skin packs.
* Remember, whatever is added has to work on a phone! I'd think just the vanilla "full" version of MC would be pushing it. (So much for "no lag").
Which brings up some interesting questions:
* What's gonna happen to the java version when Win10 catches up? No sense in having 2 versions just alike, right?
* What's gonna happen to the 360, Sony, and WiiU versions?
* Personally I'd hope that once Win10 catches up, Mojang abandons the old java version (enough is enough) and starts work on a new PC-only MC2 (improved everything), written in C++, that has also has Mac and Linux versions. Time to shake things up. You guys are too settled in your ways.
Lol, you make alot of good points there, why indeed do you need word or exceel on console, sadly thou i'll never buy a Minecraft/Microsoftcraft. Only reason i have w10 mc is because they gave it to me for free, and the java version will live forever in mods as you cant do that with the w10 edition. Even if they stop updating the game, im sure players will pick up the slack as they have done in the past.
The java version of minecraft is full of lag if your not on a rop of the range gaming computer these days. This has forced many MC users to stop playing, me included. With every major update the java version of MC system requirements increase and more players get forced out. Either Mojang has so make their Java MC run faster with older systems or just shut it down and focus on making w10MC work on different OSs as well as different platforms.
The java version of minecraft is full of lag if your not on a top of the range gaming computer these days. This has forced many MC users to stop playing, me included. With every major update the java version of MC system requirements increase and more players get forced out.
Agreed. As they add more "stuff" to the java version, the worse it runs. Win10 and PE are each outselling the java version more than 2-to-1. To bring us up to speed (old thread), Mojang has stated (it's in the News) that Win10, PE, and Xbox One will all "catch up" to the java version shortly... but that all will have "community made" add-ons (not "mods" as you're as you're thinking of them) and that all three will be able to play together on Realms.
This won't happen over-night (there's 6 years of catching up to do), but it will happen within a few more months.
Either Mojang has so make their Java MC run faster with older systems or just shut it down and focus on making w10MC work on different OSs as well as different platforms.
Disagree. Personally, I don't think the java version will "go away" completely. If nothing else, it will stay around for the non-Windows 10 people and keep Mojang from having to write a Mac version, a Linux version, etc., plus trying to keep them all in sync. But a vast majority of the R&D and programming time will be on Win10/PE (now and in the future). The java version lovers will still be completely on their own though. Like I've said before: the question isn't "Will Win10 ever catch up to the java version?", but "Will the java version be able to keep up with Win10?"
I also think that once Win10/PE "catches up", you ain't seen nuthin yet. C++ will give Mojang the freedom to do things in MC they only thought about doing before, but wasn't able to. Win10/PE won't ever be MC2, but it can come close.
The original question was: "Why is MCW10E better than normal MC?"
It's not... now. But that's only temporary. The java version lovers have the mindset that their version will always be the "best" one, and the "only one worth playing". It won't. We will make Win10 the best one, simply because it will be better. Much better. Who says we can't have "shaders" or water that looks like water built-in? Or more creatures, wires instead of that silly "dust" (and no need for "repeaters"), powered minecarts that we can control instead of "powered rails", or wind so we can have sailboats? There's lots of things in MC that can be improved on, or have quality additions.
Like it or not, MC is changing and Win10 is the future.
Java can be just has fast as C++, but the Java version was not well made. C++ can be cross platform, MCPE already runs on Android, which uses Linux as its kernel, but hey, Microsoft wants people to get Windows 10!
Is better on win 10 when comes to graphics and lag but for the real pocket edition feeling of course but it then choice isyourd I want to buy on iPad but the thing is i preorder pc so yep... It would be cool if win 10 mc was free for who bought mc in iPad which actually makes sense than a guy with the mc on pc if u get what I mean😊
I'm not a coding sawwy but i know that C++ is far more superior than Java as far as gaming goes. No, dont tell me that its bad for modding, take a look at GTA, Skyrim, Fallout, factorio etc.. The list goes on.
That is not how it works. Yes, C++ in some ways are superior than Java, it's in a way faster than it. But it is bad for modding. If you want to make a game using C++ you have to rely on the community to know C++ (which is a very hard language) or make a separate application made for modding your game (which is hard as well). We probably won't see that with MC:W10 for a while.
The original question was "Why is MCW10E better than normal MC?"
Stickmastermo made a good post.
But Mojang/MS, in my opinion, made a brilliant decision in passing up on mods for Win10 and going with add-ons instead. To me, add-ons have 2 huge advantages over mods.
1- Add-ons are easy enough to create that you can do it yourself. You don't need to know C++, nor are you dependent on a modder who knows C++ to write one. You can create an add-on you want instead of hoping a modder writes one you might want.
2- Add-ons are not version specific. I read the PC forum also and it amazes me that the number of players that (have to) keep playing older versions of the game, foregoing any new updates with new features and bug fixes, just so they can continue to use their precious mods. I've also seen several threads wondering when the modder is going to update their mod (lotza luck) so they can use a newer version of MC. Add-ons don't have those problems. Your add-ons will continue to work as the game gets updated.
To be fair, add-ons are not as powerful as mods can be. But remember, Win10 doesn't allow mods anyway (and might never allow them). So while the game can't be fully customizable, you can still customize it.. yourself.
Vanilla MC regardless of platform is simply boring in my opinion and hence i don't really care about anything outside Modded MC (Java). A player that has been around MC for long enough and has enough knowledge can go through all of the content in few hours. What mojang needs to do is start adding actual content instad of just playing around with command block features and adding mobs every once in a while. Once they start doing that i will start caring about vanilla, until then, i'm not interested at all. Vanilla MC in general is suffering from chronical lack of actual content in my opinion.
Title says it all.
I like to revive dead threads.

Basically what cestislife said. You can still play regular pc Minecraft on Windows 10, but Windows 10 MC is more compatible with Windows Tablets.
k bye
'with cross-platform capabilities between Windows, Xbox, and Mobile'
Has Xbox compatibility been confirmed?
Well here are some pros to it:
1) Will be Compatible with Pocket Edition
2) Xbox live allows people who don't know how to port forward to play together with out needed a server
3) Controller support with out mods
4) Lower hardware requirements
5) Skins don't require a skin server
6) This should encourage more moders to make PC <-> PE world converters.
7) Pocket players and play 0.12.0 befor it comes out.
The one thing my friend has told me is that it'll be optimized to be used with the Hololens.
The Windows 10 Edition already is targeting all devices running Windows 10 (you can check the AppxManifest for the app), which means it already can run on Xbox if the UWP core is present (it's not).

Well, its 0.14.0 now, and I can name some things.
These are mainly gameplay features, and they're not much, but hey, they add to this argument.
1. like many people are saying, it does run better. Less lag, especially less than on my old iPod Touch.
2. It's compatable across a lot of stuff, and, unlike PE, it has three control modes: keyboard, touchscreen, and controller.
3. The interfaces are more like PC.
4. It can broadcast to Xbox Live.
5. annnnnnd...that's about it. But just say'in, they help with this argument.
(You knew I had to jump in here....)

It's now at 1.0 and it's less optimized than 1.11.2 Java, even though Java has much more.
