It did take time and there was a learning curve. We transferred 2 villagers from a village across the sky rail line in minecarts. We had a temporary dirt area about 20x20 next to the golem farm where we breed more villagers. Then we used dirt paths with fences on the side to get the villagers in the holding areas. Used buckets of water to wash them into the direction we wanted.
To load the villagers into minecarts we enclosed an area with the start of the rail line. Pushed the villagers until they were on the track in front of the minecart and sent the minecart down the track. The villager would pop into the minecart when it hit him about a block or two from the start. To get the villager out you just carefully break the minecart.
The villagers don't breed now. You need 3 doors per villager for breeding and we have 16+ villagers and 40 doors. The children villagers proved very difficult as they can pass through 1x1 openings in blocks.
But now that it's done it's a great combination build that everyone uses.
Seems like a worthwhile project, especially now that the worlds are so massive, iron for minecart tracks has become all important to get around quickly and all the villages can be so far away now.
