Download the latest driver from HP or from AMD's website.
Already tried that, only the HP published one will work due to the switchable graphics. I have also already updated my bios and the switchable graphics is already on Fixed.
No, it is not fixed. I put the switchable graphics into fixed mode and the issue is still hapenning. I am thinking it could be a driver issue but I am not sure.
ATI cards don't seem to like certain OpenGL games... it seems to hate java even more then that.
If you dig around the MC folders (C:\Users\$USER$\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\bin) you should find some hs_errPID#####.log files detailing the crash. But chances are its going to be a generic error code, pointing back to the atoglxx drivers.
I've played a bunch of other java games with similar issues, and about the only thing you can do is install different version of the video drivers until you run into one that doesn't screw up. And I'm positive its ATI's problem because crap like this only starts occuring after certain driver updates. Unless someone already knows a work around, you can try lurking lwjgl resources or the billions of other minecraft forums for someone with a similar laptop and see if they found a solution.

There are no log files because it's the graphics drivers that are crashing and when they crash minecraft keeps running.
I've been having the same problem. I have a ATI Radeon HD 6770m video card, updated drivers and all. Only happens in Minecraft. No minecraft error reports or anything, driver just crashes after a black screen.
Bumping to see if anyone found a solution besides reinstalling older drivers (they don't work well with my other games).
Its a moded driver for Intel/AMD with switchable graphics, and should work well on HPs (can't confirm that for Sonys though)
I signed up to the minecraft forums especially to make this post,
My girlfriend was having the exact issue the OP was having with her HP Pavillion dv6 Notebook PC (I had the exact model number before but after what i've been through trying to fix this, I honestly cbf getting it again). I tried all manner of garbage. Since she is running Windows 7 64bit I tried installing just 64bit Java, then just installing 32bit Java then Both...nothing. Tried (after much hardship) updating the graphics drivers for her Radeon 6770M card from the official HP site etc etc etc....NOTHING.
Long story short, THIS worked (the drivers starlinvf suggests). So anyone else having this issue, please take heed! Thanks a million to starlinvf and mcfar45 for starting this topic and solving the issue. Hope this helps anyone else having the same problem.
Sorry for all the text!
P.S. I might just add that It hasn't actually been a few days yet since i've installed the drivers; However, this is by FAR the longest time Minecraft has run on my Gf's computer without black-screen, driver crashing, so yeah. Finger's crossed but yeh, thankyou!
I have an HP Pavilion 6b01tx laptop with 8GB of RAM and a Radeon 6770M Graphics Card with 2GB of memory.
Whenever I try to play minecraft, after 2-5 minutes the graphics drivers crash. This only happens on minecraft.
Anyone know anything I can do to fix this?
