I am wondering is there a way to make a minecraft sever without internet?
I have a handful of friends who all have labtops with wireless capabilties, and also minecraft, and we where wondering if it would be possible to play together without internet over a local connection?
Side Notes:
I don't know how to start a sever
I don't know how to make a local connection
To setup a network one of you needs to create a "adhoc network" , I don't know what OS your running so using google for help there, after that everyone needs to join that wireless network as per normal.
Also another thing I noticed: When playing offline my character comes up as "Player" is this going to effect others who are playing offline as well? are we all going to be called "player" is there a way around this?
I hate to ask but how do you find a Cracked Client?.. much of this is confusing.... Wouldn't it be just simpler to find a way to change the "player" part?

The problem is that minecraft needs the internet to find out what name is used for your account, without internet there is no names. Last time I was using a offline server I used bukkit with the essentials plugin that enabled me to set nicknames for everyone.

explain?.. but how whould that even work? wouldn't they setill be set as "player" ?Good News! I managed to get the sever going! However we are still having the "Player" Name issue... (I managed to get it to work by keeping my minecraft open after logging in, which allowed 1 player to join as "Player"....

Then this, but you'll need to set online-mode to false ie "online-mode=false" otherwise when you try to connect you'll get authentiaction errors
Also as admiral said, you have to set online mode to false. This is to prevent the server complaining that it can't authenticate users.
To get around your username being Player, you have to use the Minecraft Cracked Client.
To find your local IP address, you have to use a command like ipconfig.
To do this, you have to open command prompt then type 'ipconfig'.
The output is something like this:
The part that is surrounded in '----' is my local IP address.
The other person needs to use that for the server address.
If you need other help, please feel free to try out my new project, Minecraft Server Help.

and change 'deadmau5' to whatever you wish your player name to be. Then they can play on your server without name conflicts.
