Is it possible for minecraft DEVs to make minecraft BlockIDs with more range expanded BlockID's.
I believe limiting the BlockID's Range: 1-255 is making problems with many mods,
because they can not put a higher number to prevent BlockID conflicts.
Would love to see minecraft DEVs have BlockIDs Range: 1-5000 at least.
give them more room to work with.
Or maybe even making it 'unlimited' BlockIDs. Range: 1-???
many mods are taking up the Range: 1-255 making it very hard to reinput a number if conflicts happen.
because of minecraft limitations on their BlockID Range: 1-255.
If im wrong about minecraft BlockID range, please correct me and let me know if minecraft is capable of inputting a number higher than 255.
Blocks can only go to 255 because other things go to different amounts. Like items can be like 2000 so if blocks went to 1-5000 it would conflict with items thus causing conflict in the game itself without mods. If they did change it they would also have to change the other ID's ranges too.
So on and so forth, this way, each modder would have their own range
and noone should go in their range.
and would give modders lots of room for their mod blockID's range.
Solving many problems that people have with
BlockIDs conflicts in their game.
Their has to be a rule implemented for blockID range.
like the one i mentioned above, to prevent range havoc.
so you want to assign block number ranges to modders? what if a new modder comes along who is waaaay better than the others, after all the numbers have been given out what numbers do you give him?
As with any game the more mods you add, the more likely you will break something. While your solution is not without merit, there are only so many mods you could have even with your "rule".
No matter how you work it there isn't a way to not have a conflict of numbers down the road.

Thats just my opinion.
thx.
Wouldn't be possible as how would everyone know which range they have? Then what about the little mods that add in a few blocks, there will always be a conflicting ID even with your idea. Its a good idea, but it can still cause problems.
True, but it would cause less problems then what they are now.
After we have official mod support it will be easier for modders to work with each other and solve the conflicting numbers/issues. While there a number of solutions, they cant really be implemented until we have a standard across the board mod support, so all modders can be on the same page. (script wise)

They would know, because it would be on a website.
and this rule would mostly be for MAIN Modders everyone uses.
Buildcraft, Industrialcraft, RedPower and Forestry.
main mods that everyone automatically installs anyways.
little modders, can use high numbers above 1000.
but main modders follows this rule so people would have structure in here.
there is way too many modders fighting for the same number, and its my belief
that the MAIN modders mentioned above, should set a structure pattern.
and the little modders have to obey the rules of main modders that have big influence in the game.

Exactly, there is no structure.... and their should be. specially for the MAIn modders...
meaning BlockID's only go from Range: 1-255 ??

If this is so,
then why all the modders are crowding the range 1-255 ??
and making mods conflict with each other.?
if they can use higher range numbers, why are they crowding 1-255.?
The way I would do it is, if they can use higher range numbers
other than the one they are crowding now 1-255...
This would be the rule I would do.
1. Buildcraft Rage: 500-599
2. IndustrialCraft: 600-699
3. Forestry : 700-799
4. RedPower : 800-899

I have never used any of those... Nor have any of my friends that play.
