Hi everyone! This is a "Lag Spike" topic. I think everyone knows "Lag Spikes", so I won't talk much. I created this topic, because my computer's hardware are different.
I've checked and tried most of guides, mods and other things (like changing graphics quality). But they didn't made an effect.
Here is a short list what I've tried:
System check with Advanced System Care 4.0.0 Pro
Virus scan with KIS 2011 (Original, I bought)
Advanced OpenGL: Off
Render Distance: Tiny
Graphics: Fast
"jawaw.exe" graphics modification using NVIDIA Control Panel
Tried to run Minecraft with 3 GB RAM
Changed "minecraft.exe" priority from normal to high in Task Manager
Used Minecraft's default texture pack
My computer's hardware and Java information:
Sony Vaio VPCF12S1E with Windows 7 Home Premium x64 Bit

I've been getting this lag spike as well. I've run several scans with my antivirus software (Avira Antivirus and Malwarebytes), restarted my computer, re-downloaded the core files, made all the tweaks to the graphics that I could, and even defragmented my hard drive (not sure if it would help, but it was 24% fragmented, so I thought it could help in some way).

Having the same problems here. The game will usually start up and run fine for a bit usually around 120 fps. After 30 seconds or so the lag spikes start in and it renders the game unplayable 2-6 fps. Tried many of the fixes and nothing is helping. I did not have this problem until version 1.0 hope this gets fixed soon.
Hey, I had the same problem. I'd start my game up fine, then the lag would spike for like a second and go back and slowly build up with more lag. Do not know what to do. Problem is, I had this problem since 1.5.

I may have found a bit of a solution. I followed these directions from a YouTube video:
- Go into your .minecraft folder
- Double-click the "options" text document
- Change the FPS limit (Default is 1) to 30 and save the document
From what I've seen, it works for me, and I haven't gotten the annoying lag spikes since then I've heard that the FPS limit controls how low your FPS is allowed to go, so it would make sense that this could work. The only downside is that the game will spaz out when I try to go into the video settings in the options.

fpsLimit corresponds to performance in video settings so the best is to change that instead of editing a text file.
Valid values for fpsLimit:
0 (=Max FPS)
1 (=Balanced)
2 (=Power saver)
Other values (e.g. 30) causes Minecraft to crash and show the empty dirt screen when clicking on video settings in the options.
If it does, you'll have to edit the options file and change fpsLimit to one of the values listed above (e.g. fpsLimit:0 for Max FPS).

Two things that I didn't see you tried:
1. Restart your computer.
2. Try quiting all other programs when you play Minecraft.
You may have already done this, but, just in case...

I find that odd that 30 still works for me, though.
