Try restarting your computer if that doesn't work do the following.
Go to your Minecraft file, if you are using a mac it will be under Library-Application Support-Minecraft on a PC you can just open Minecraft with Winrar or another kind of Unarchiving application. Now if you see a save folder you are in the right place, now drag that folder to somewhere other than your MInecraft folder, now remember to remember where you put your saves. Drag the Minecraft folder to the trash of your task bar or desktop window. Now launch MInecraft again, log in and MInecraft should download. Also let me know if you hhad any mods installed because that might be the problem. Like yesterday the same thing happened to me when I placed down an engine generator while using TooManyItems with IndustrialCraft.To fix it all I had to do was go on MCedit and delete the object. Hope this helps.
