Basically, sometimes the terrain appears pitch black regardless of the lighting around it (or in the Nether just really really dark). I can solve this temporarily by placing a torch in the affected area or by breaking a block, but IDK how to make it stop happening entirely.

The issue seems to happen a crapton more in the Nether, as you can see by the pictures.

The blackness is normal, been there since early alpha.
The nether though is a known glitch from 1.9-pre3.
For some odd reason I have a hard time believing that the overworld blackness is normal, the blocks are FULLY exposed to sunlight (other than that weird cliff, but still). Makes no sense.

That's why it's called a glitch...
It's just a normal thing I've gotten used to.

You only said it's a glitch in the Nether, you said it was "normal" for the Overworld.
Why wouldn't it be a glitch? I was saying it's nothing new, everyone has experienced it at least once, it's not something that just started happening recently.
It never happened in the nether before 1.9pre3, though, at least not that i'm aware of.
