I have been anxiously awaiting the release of pre2, sadly, I still have the same issue, minecraft crashes on world creation, or when loading new chunks on a previous map.
It is very hard for me to play 1.8 now, because I know that I will have to completely re-do everything that I am working on when 1.9 comes out. there are so many new things in 1.9 that won't be available to older 1.8 maps, like villagers, they won't be in my towns...
I just can't enjoy playing this game knowing that. please please please fix this, I am not the only person with this issue.

About the only thing that I can point out is your version of Java is a few updates behind. If I read that correctly, you're running Java 6 Update 17. The latest is Java 6 Update 27. Not sure updating will help, but it can't hurt.
