I tried posting this before but it was giving me trouble, so I'll try this again.

How many monsters do you usually get around your house at night? Before I got minecraft I used to watch let's plays near religiously and there would only seem to be about a handful. Ever since I started playing the game however, there's been hordes of monsters. I'm talking things like 10 creepers, 5 skeletons, a bunch of spiders and a couple zombies all at once. It's really difficult for me to do anything, even on easy mode. Not just during the day either, because I can't seem to go 5 steps without running into a creeper or two.

Should I just learn to deal or is this some kind of bug that can be fixed? I don't want to have to play on peaceful all the time but it's getting ridiculous :/

Try adding a bunch of torches around your house. It makes it so monsters won't spawn near it.

yeah, do the torch thing or make a huge ditch for the monsters to fall in, or a monster trap.

Yeah there couldn't really be a glitch. Just through around some torches.

Is your difficulty on hard?

since 1.8 came out, it seems hostile mobs spawn in greater numbers at night. a 2 block deep, 2 block wide pit around places you don't want critters will stop all but spiders. if it's that big of a deal, switch to peaceful difficulty.

Just go mining at night and everything else at day.
