Hey there. My friend runs this multiplayer server fine and I can connect okay. We both live in the U.S.. He says he's had someone from New Zealand on his server before, and it was a little laggy, but they were okay.
I now have a friend in New Zealand who just bought the game and they can't connect to his server. They get the reading and signal, but then it says Logging In... and the window freezes. Her internet works okay 'cause we can talk on instant messenger and stuff. My friend who runs the server says that he's gotten messages in his server window thing saying stuff like, "Disconnecting /222.152.199.146:57159: Took too long to log in". The New Zealand friend has tried restarting her computer, forcing an update, and taking down her firewalls. She can play Single Player fine.
Any even attempted help would be appreciated. :biggrin.gif:

+ What OS?
+ Check that all versions match up
+ Check that java is up to date
+ Are you able to ping each other? What's the ping?
+ Are you port-forwarding the server?

New Zealand friend has Windows 7. I have Windows XP. Friend that runs server has 7 also.
I'm guessing her Java's up to date if she can run it on single player.
How do you ping each other?
It has to be port forwarded if I'm able to log on and he's in another state.

To help determine that there is first communication occurring, issue a ping.
To do so;
+ Tell your friend to go to www.whatismyip.com
- Get their IP address from them and write it down
XP
+ Open Start Menu->Click Run->Type "cmd" and press Enter->ping "your friends ip here"
Win7
+ Open Start menu->Type "cmd" in the search bar->Press enter->ping "your friends ip here"
You ought to see:
Reply from IP.HERE.IS.NORMAL: bytes=32 time=something TTL=something
...repeated a few times
Please share the "time" result or any other abnormalities. Then, we can move on.

My friend that runs the server says that the request timed out. My friend from New Zealand says the same thing. Neither of them can ping my IP address either.

Sorry for the delay in response. Any progress so far..?
If not, to help determine whether it's a connection between you and friends, run a speedtest.net ping on a server within close proximity of your friends and yourself. Come back with results here so we can discuss..
