Okay, so let me start off by stating that I normally have no problems with Minecraft. I can usually figure out problems on my own since I'm used to doing so, but since this latest update&patch, I've found myself running in circles.
First thing's first.
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x32
CPU: Intel Pentium 4 @ 2.8GHz Dual-core
RAM: 3GB DDR2 @ 332.9 MHz
MoBo: ASUS P5QSE Plus
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT 512MB w/ core @ 650 MHz
Java Version: 1.6.0_26 32 bit
Most-Used Browser: Google Chrome
On to the problem...
Since updating and patching to the latest MC version, I get this weird bug that, at first, caused my computer to completely lock up. This happens whenever I try running the Minecraft.exe and I load up a fresh world and start walking around; after a moment or so, my screen flashes and there are several horizontal black lines across the screen that flicker, and my computer slows down. I at first believed the culprit to be my video card drivers since I had updated them last night, but after rolling them back I have no improvement. Next I tried uninstalling Java and reinstalling it, with no real improvement. The only thing I was able to notice is that when I play, I have a chance to hit Escape and bring up the menu. This makes my computer no longer lag for however long the game stays paused. When I cannot hit escape, I am able to slowly move my mouse to the close box and if I'm patient, I can rapidly left-click to get it to go through.
Normally I play with my graphics on Fancy, render distance on Normal, and everything else is default. For this, I turned everything down to a crawl and had nothing improve. Just for fun, I ran Minecraft in my browser and was able to play for the most part, but the problem still occurs. I've also just backed up my saves and texture packs, then deleted my .minecraft folder, then ran Minecraft yet again. No dice there. I also attempted running the minecraft.jar.
Also, for the record, I would just like to state that Minecraft 1.6.6 was and is working fine, no problems whatsoever. So, this leads me to believe that maybe there's just a problem with Minecraft that I can't solve?
Hope this can get resolved soon, and thanks in advance.
Mine is DEFINITELY lagging a lot more than normally, but no lines... For example, I would move for 10 seconds, than try to place a block, and it will freeze for a few seconds. Hopefully 1.7.3 is soon to fix this...
I have no clue what is going on try turning to fullscreen that usually fixes lag for me.
If I run it in fullscreen, I run the chance of never being able to get out of Minecraft, forcing me to restart my computer. Besides, I tend to have better FPS when running windowed anyway. =\

i think your Graphic Card is dying.
My card is fine. I make sure to keep my hardware running properly. Hasn't been pushed to its absolute limit since I've had it.
