Something to add to the disappearing tool bug, It also effects anything with durability (Armor, Flint and Steel, Etc.) . If you pick up dropped armor and right click while it's selected in your inventory, it'll disappear. Just like the tools.
Bucket of lava disappear from furnaces after one refining....items keep on smelting anyway.
Not a glitch, you'd notice the same thing with coal. the first one you put in is consumed and turned into heat as soon as you put something smeltable up top. It'll keep burning for a time depending on what your fuel was.

Yeah thats what I thought, I posted it on the front page anyways...

Previously when I put 64 coal into an oven it said 64 until the flames died down. Then it said 63...62...61 and so on. Is this not the case with Lava? The instant you put it in the whole thing disappears? Even so, aren't the empty buckets supposed to come back?
EDIT: My mistake about the 64 coal, you're right. But still, empty buckets were supposed to come back right?

I'm not sure, because I've never used lava in a furnace but I think the bucket is lost when used as fuel.

Ok I cant find the topic I read it in but I do recall something about buckets in furnaces and it having been fixed prior to 1.5 coming out. Oh well. Not really that big of deal I guess.

Whenever I, or 3 of my friends log into my small server this error message appeared in Minecraft Server:
[SEVERE] Unexpected exception
java.lang.NullPointerException

at dn.a(SourceFile:43)
at dh.g(SourceFile:1136)

I fixed this bug by changing view-distance=10 to view-distance=5 so I can log in, BUT my friends still can't. Another disadvantage is that every minute, Minecraft Server unexpectedly freezes without error message.
Because with view-distance=5, the server freeze, I changed it back to 10, and surprisingly, I can log in! Unfortunately, many others can't. So I don't know what to do!!! My server's half down today! AND my friends are getting annoyed by the 40th time the server crashes (although they always want to come back). THIS ERROR IS AFTER BETA 1.6.4!!! I'm running the server on Windows 7. Please help!
The chunk error is not solved for everyone by having the server set view distance to either a high or low number. I have tried both and my server is still experiencing the errors.

Hey, I think lava buckets don't have infinite fuel supply, but still really high, like 100 objects per minute or something. You know how if you put on piece of coal or other fuel in, it instantly is lost, but the furnace is still heated? I think that's what happening.

Downgrade everything to 1.5_01 and have your friends downgrade also, thats the only way you can fix it for sure. Then, once 1.6.4 servers are all fixed, upgrade. Thats your fastest way of doing things. If you need a downgrade tool, go into the minecraft tool section of the forums and look for one, there are like, 5 or 6 of them.
Everytime I spawn I'm stuck in a block for a second, but still get the damage noise even though I don't get damaged. I know this is stupid to complain about, but trust me it gets annoying.

If there's a visibility option in the server setup, then you must be running an ancient server with an ancient version of Minecraft. Get it updated, man. It'll probably take an entire day, but it's worth it. Or is that from the 1.6.4 update? Then I think you should check and make sure you're using port 25565, and port forward.
Start a new map, that might help...

I found a fix where if i load it in 1.5_01 it fixes the bad item.
