I've been trying to download various player skins, and none of them will render the second, out 'helmet' layer, the one that supports transparency.
For, instance, I try to use this skin, and in-game it looks like this:
I've redownloaded my minecraft.jar, and tried what I can think of, but I can't get it to work. Does anyone know what to do here, or how I can fix it, aside from simply using skins that don't use the helmet layer?
I know it says in the rules not to bump support topics after 24 hours, but hell, if I don't get a single response for a completely legitimate problem, I'm doing it anyway.
Here's what I discovered... If you use MS Paint in any way, it will not save transparency. For a helmet layer to apply it needs at least one pixel of transparency, and MS Paint replaces all transparency with white, and it breaks the texture. If you've made any edits or even opened the file with Paint or any other editor that removes transparency, it will break.
There might be another problem, but this is what fixed it for me.

Any sort of help at all would be wonderful.
