I seem to be getting a lag/spike/delay problem in minecraft 1.4+ about every second i'm playing I freeze momenterily.
My system and graphics gard are up to the task.
I have an I5 2.88ghz processor , 4gm ram, Nvidia 465 graphics card.
the cpu usage is sitting about 38% , and my fps is anywhere between 50-300+ fps.
so I can't see why i'm gettingthis spike / delay / freeze about every second or 2.
this is without any mods installed.
It never used to do this and its very annoying (almost makes it unplayable, well not as enjoyable)
please i need answers , solutions , at least acknowledgement that i'm not the only one :wink.gif:
Ever since the 1.4+ (post-April Fools) update came out, my Minecraft has played normally for 30 seconds to one minute, then developed a massive screen lag. Things drop to about 2fps, sometimes less. I can return to the main menu and exit (albeit slowly), and when I restart everything seems normal...for 30 seconds to one minute, at which point the screen starts lagging again.
This is on Ubuntu 10.10, using java version 1.6.0_24. I have no mods or texture packs installed. I have tried deleting my entire Minecraft installation and starting over with a clean install, but the problem persists.
I never had a problem with the game on this machine before this patch; the game has been unplayable since this patch.
You hop on the irc occasionally right? do you have teamviewer? I'm in #minecrafthelp, #minecraft and #minecraftforums a lot (I don't use my forum username there), if you have teamviewer I could try some troubleshooting. Minecraft performs very poorly over teamviewer, so I probably won't be able to do much, but if it's something obvious I might be able to get it.
I have a class in 5 minutes for 2 hours, I'll contact you afterwards. You might consider doing some research on teamviewer so you know what I'm talking about (if you didn't already)
It's safe; you get a confirmation request if he attempts to gain control. It's mostly a screen-sharing application that leaves you in control of the computer.

Notch could replace Minecraft.net with goatse tomorrow and never publish an update again; the only legal recourse I have is to shake my fist at the screen.
I doubt he'll change his mind. I have helped a bunch of people out with teamviewer, but I would never actually allow them access to my computer. Totally not for any specific reason, I'm just paranoid :smile.gif:

yup me too.
i am a computer tech, and massive alpha/beta tester and coder so the problem i'm having isn't a simple one to fix , it is a bug in MC , just looking for a temp fix :wink.gif:
Have you tried Optimine? The official version hasn't been updated yet, but someone quite kindly updated it for Scaevolus. Check the Released Mods section. I'm on Linux, notoriously terrible for Minecraft, and I gained about 15-20 fps in SMP, and 20-35 in SSP.
(It's safe, as he released his source and process for updating the mod. It's also been checked over by several seasoned coders for any malicious code; none found.)

just did another check, this time i limited it to one core only.. (thinking it might be waiting for another core to finish what it was doing) but still no difference, still jitters :sad.gif:
I can normally play for 30 minutes up to 2 hours riding at 40-50FPS, then out of the blue the game will drop to 5FPS for no reason at all...I have noticed during normal play my memory usage is between 150-200mb, when it drops to 5fps memory usage jumps suddenly from 200mb to 300-400.
Im not a java programmer by no means so I dont know how the program is built...but it seems to me theres some bug doesnt dump far chunks when loading new chunks, so you suddenly get a spike that persists even when you exit and reload because the game stores what it was doing at the time you exited(Im assuming theres certain requirements that has to be made to get this bug, thats why people are experiencing them at different rates).
You could try to go to Control Panel -> Java -> Settings -> Clear Internet Files...that would clear the java cache and when you start minecraft, theres no "point of return" so it just starts loading the world from where youre at.
EDIT: Just reread your OP and what I said has nothing to do with your issue, I must have got your problems mixed up with someone else who posted in this thread...have you tried to reinstall minecraft? maybe you got a glitched version?
You could also try going to Control Panel -> Java ->Network Settings and click Use Browser Settings...the game seems like it actually considers itself a browser, something happened and I changed it to Use Browser Settings and it fixed it(was Direct Connection)...cant remember if it was skipping or what
after installing MC 1.5and then 1.5_01 i was still having these Jitters about every 1 to 2 seconds (like a heart beat)
Guess what....
I've fixed it
How you ask ???
i noticed that every time there was one of these jitters my Hard Drive Light would come on..
{A light ent on above my head}
I said "DOHHHH"
and imediatle opened my the device manager in my control panel
and changed the settings for all my hard drives from Quick Removal (sata drives they are , and there was something on the net that was supposed to enable the other mode of sata drives other than IDE, I had put this in and set them so that i could make them hot swapable. Thats what was slowing them down , not the different format/accessing.. just the fact that they were set to hot swapable, as soon as I disabled that and did a reboot ....BAMMMM...... Drive access was a lot quicker and no more jitter when playing Minecraft :wink.gif:
I still have write behind chche turnrd off becausae I think its totally unsafe and false speed.
Thanks for putting [SOLVED] in the title and explaining exactly how you fixed it, very few people follows up after they resolve the issue(wish they did it more). :biggrin.gif:
Sorry to bump an old post, but I have the problem you described, and am trying to follow what you did to fix it. I am on Win7 64bit and I haven't done any hot-swap or anything to my hard drives. Googling about it for the past hour hasn't really helped, and my minecraft still jitters, so if somebody can tell me what he said in layman's terms, I'd be much obliged.
Thanks in advance :biggrin.gif:

Are you using 64 bit java or 32 bit?

it asn't screen lag, fps is unaffected, I can see the spikes when f3 pressed.
tried with different fog levels , fancy / fast graphics , headbobing on/off no difference
and tried from a force install still no difference
also tried locking frame rate , again , no difference
if somneone could point me to a temp fix i'd appreciate it,
PS: just tried with latest optimine but still no difference ..
the jitter is still there no matter what i try
