When i play mc for a little while (like 5 min), the mc screen turns black, like if its not in full screen only the game part turns black.
A little window thing pops up saying: JAVA(TM) PLATFORM SE BINARY IS NOT RESPONDING
i have the newest version of java (version 6 update 24)
I don't have any mods or anything running

I had to turn my view distance to normal instead of far. That solved it for me. Good luck!

if you have done anything with mcpatcher lately that could be the problem.... i fixed mine by going into my Minecraft files with Run %appdata% ya know that thing and went into the minecraft files and pulled out the "mcpatcher.properties" file and now mine worxx just without the texture pack

I ALWAYS GET THAT.

Here's how my minecraft stopped working:
One day I was going to play minecraft, but it said the Java SE Binary Platform wasn't responding.
But that's not all.
A month later, the minecraft browser didn't even open AT ALL.
No response to my double left-click. Nada.
The browser showed NO response. It didn't even open! When I clicked, my computer just sat there, nothing happened.
Help plz? I have a 64 bit windows vista, HP laptop, my graphics card is Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family, don't know the problem. Does anyone else know? ]" title="-<->" /> [] [>>-i>]

actually i started having this problem after i turned all my advanced vid settings 2 max
try turning your open gl off turn on limit framerate and turn off smooth lighting:)
