Ok, So i did the suggested google search, seeing as how currently the forum's search is disabled.
Basically, I want to delete an account. I purchased the account, thru PayPal (still have the receipt) for my 12 year old nephew. Well, after 2 weeks of people complain to me of him having a bad attitude, griefing, etc... I went in and changed his password.
Not that he cant just use the "recover Password" option to have the password email back to him to his email account.
So I am looking for how to delete his account. I didn't see it on the web, or anywhere else, and that leads me to believe that it probably cant be done.
Seeing as how I am the one that paid for his account, I should have the right to delete said account. My money bought it. Anyway, I am just hoping to teach him a lesson on playing online games and having bad attitudes is not acceptable.
Suggestions? (please dont say "send an email form the registered email account" because i dont have access to his email account.)
And before anyone flames me for doing "the wrong thing", His Mother (he's 12) has asked me to delete his account. I was on with just changing the password, then after a month giving the account back to him. His mother, however, does not want him playing online games, and as how he is her son, I have to play by her rules.
I'm thinking that their legal stance will be that it doesn't matter who paid for the account it's only the registered user that has the right to ask for that to be done. I have no idea what you can do. You're right, of course, this situation has certainly happened before but I've never seen it on the forums I frequent.
I hate to suggest this but it seems to me that perhaps Internet access should be at risk and not just one game. The bigger the stick, the more likely compliance will come about.
Edit: chuckaknuckle has been around much longer than me so it looks like it can't be done, regardless!

I sent an email to mojang.com, asking for help, and also sending proof (the guest reg number) that i was the one that paid for the account. Let see what they say. Hopefully i can, if not i can always blacklist minecraft.net thru Windows hosts file.
I'm assuming he has a non-admin account under Windows/Mac OS X/Linux? If so, 2 suggestions:
1- Uninstall JAVA on his account and he won't be able to play Minecraft.
2- Disallow inbound/outbound web traffic from the Minecraft app via system Firewall so we won't be able to play online.
Only problem with that is that he's kinda computer savvy. His mom's netbook, he went in and changed the admin password and wont tell his mom what it is. Also, his parents are separated, so when he goes to his dads house he could always re-log in, go to his email, and have them re-send the new password to his email. This is partially why i need the actual account deleter, only sure way to keep him off the game, at least with out his Dad (His Mom wont pay for it, i know) buying him a new account.
You could try emailing [email protected] or [email protected] with your transaction ID and account name, and asking them to remove the premium status. I doubt you'd get a refund at this point (I think the cut-off is a week or something,) but you could probably just get them to disable the account.
No guarantees on it, but it's worth a shot at least.

I email Payment, i got a "ticket number" from them, but i am going to re-send the email to support, that may be the right area to send it to. Not that i want to spam them...
Thanks to both TheGuardian001 and Governa for help. I will let yall know what happens.
[email protected] is the correct address to send to regarding account and billing issues. It can take some time to get a reply just be patient.
If you're looking for a refund you wont get one. If you read the Terms of Service agreement, the FAQ's, and several other readouts on minecraft.net sites it clearly states refunds are available ONLY within 1 week of purchase.
IMHO I'd just let him grief and annoy people, honestly that is half the game. The servers will simply ban him when they seem him griefing, little to no harm done. The servers are individually owned by random people, him getting in trouble with one server does not relate in any way to minecraft as a whole or any other server.
If this game didn't have griefers online play would be a little boring.
So why exactly are you trying to block his access to the game? are you wanting him to only be able to play in offline mode? If that's the case, then he would still need an account to do so.

OK forget the PC/Mac settings, change your router's admin password and try one of the following (or some combined):
1- Change your Wifi's password and don't give him the new password
2- Use MAC Address filtering to keep his machine (or any other machine on which he has admin access) off the web
3- Use URL filtering to prevent access to the minecraft server where he plays
4- Port range filtering (leave only open common ports like 80, 8080, ...)
5- Disable the ethernet ports
You can also access the computer's BIOS, create an admin password and disable ethernet and wifi at BIOS level.
They dont have a router, that use one of those Cell phone USB sticks from Verizon. So that's kinda out of the picture. But thanks anyway :biggrin.gif:

The case is (now) that his mothers does not trust online games at all, save for Facebook games, Farm Ville, etc... So she does not want him gaming at all that is not on some web site where she can "watch over him", you know, a place that has his friends listed, and that's pretty much Facebook. Yes, I think that she is being over protective but he's her son, she can do whatever she wants, kinda.
I dont care if I dont get a refund. So I lose out on $20 USD, big whoop. I would be appreciative if I did get the activation code renewed, but I dont see that happening.
All in all, I am going thru all of this hell because he (12 year old) assured me (and i didnt think to ask) that him having an account would be ok with his mom. My bad for believing a 12 year old, right?
as far as servers banning him for griefing and annoying, apparently the server that i play on, the admin has no real idea on how to do so. He can ban-kick you off, but he says that he cant get , I guess, IP banning to work. I dont know.
If he wants to download the game at his dads house and play offline, fine, not my problem. I am just trying to do as his Mom (my sister, obviously) asks and remove his account.

I don't wish to hijack this thread but... isn't Mojang based in Sweden? All online traders must comply with EU consumer laws enshrined in the Distance Selling Directive, the E-Commerce Directive, and the Unfair Commercial Practices Directive. All their websites are required to display the following in a clear and straightforward manner:
- the identity and contact details of the trader
- main characteristics of the product
- the full price including tax
- delivery costs
- the total cost (including any extra charges)
- payment and deliver arrangements
- an address for complaints
- consumer rights including right to return, right to get a repair or replacement and right to a refund within 30 days
Why would refunds be available only within 1 week of purchase?
I think that if it is listed differently in the EULA then they can play by those rules that they have listed. I dont know, Not A Lawyer. All I am hoping for, AT BEST, is a deleted account, and a new gift certificate number in it's place. I would probably use the account as an Alt... Or just give it away, to non-family member.
to the hosts file next time i am at his Mom's house. That would stop him, at her house. But does it only work for IE or for other browsers? Not that it matters, IE is what they use, moot point i guess.
I cant really change anything on the netbook, his Mom is about as un-computer savvy and friendly as it gets. She calls me for tech support on how to open up Notepad. Yeah, it's that bad.
His mom could take the dongle away form him... but when he's at his dads he may try to login, get email sent, un-do my password change form the email, and start up this **** all over again.

Not in the EU. EULAs cannot denny EU citizens their rights regarding Returns (14 to 30 days depending on the country) and Warranties (6 months to 2 years depending on the product and country).

This is why I need to delete the account.
Have you tried reaching Notch or one of the other guys via Twitter?
Good luck mate.
Just mentioned this thread to Notch @Twitter. Probably going to ignore it though, I am sure that he gets a LOT of tweets.
You won't get a reply from him not only does he get way to many tweets to read. But he is currently flying over the atlantic ocean right now I believe.
As for the whole 1 week return policy on minecraft, I don't think it falls under the category specified by Governa for a few reasons, The main one being that you are not actually buying a product. You are pre-purchasing an unavailable game as it is still in development. There is also laws that try to make software sales non-refundable due to piracy.
You can also try to log into his account, change the password. Then change the email associated to the account?
And unless you go into his computer and remove minecraft.jar located in %appdata%\.minecraft\bin the game will still fully function even without the account.

Just change the email and password, and sell it!
You could charge more than 20 if it was created in alpha stage. It comes with everything forever, free basically.

Beta. I bought it one week (money issues) after it went beta, sadly.
You can change the Password, but i dont see a way to change the email account associated with it, thats what is giving me trouble.

I did delete the .minecraft folder from the netbook's harddrive. That was easy. If you know of some way to change the associated email with the account, please let me know, as this will stop the need for deletion, and lock him out for good.
I think it may have been removed due to account hackers, But it seems if you send an email to [email protected] with transaction ID/proof you bought the game you can ask for an email address change (make sure to include the email you want to associate the account with)
