You kiddies do more whining than a 14yr old girl on her period. Find something else to do other than complain about the servers being down. And how you think Notch is a bad guy, a majority of the team is on their way to GDC. So how could know if they've been on a plane to San Francisco!! My god. Take a chill and calm down.
guys sorry, but shut the hell up. minecraft is in BETA. AKA NOT ****ING PERFECT. just wait and stop complaining. if this happens in the full version, then yea complain. right now, there is no point
"Minecraft is in BETA..."
THIS.
I have a few problems with this overly used statement.
1. Beta games usually do NOT cost anything. They are free-to-play until they go to live productions. This is always the case in closed beta and almost always the case in open beta. Taking money = providing a service. I understand it's beta, but don't take my money. I'd gladly test this beta for free, and then pay $50 for the game when out of beta.
2. Typically (sarcasm) BETA games are in beta so that you can log in, play the game, report crashes, bugs, exploits, problems, and of course make suggestions/support the beta game. GIven that the very basic fundamental problem is that we cannot even beta test the game, makes..... beta testing the beta nearly impossible.
3. The excuse "it's beta" doesn't negate the fact that this issue is ongoing, frustrating, and seems to never get a solid solution. Add to the fact that Notch has made a substantial ammount of money in Alpha/Beta would have us assume that throwing a bit more money at the problem (better talent, better equipment) is a totally feasible conclusion.
FURTHERMORE, I feel at this point stating the obvious "it's beta" is now considered a troll/flame. It serves no purpose, it's illogical, it solves nothing, and it stands to do nothing. So, GTFO out of the troll echo-chamber and find an original idea to leave with us here in the forums. Thanks.
I gotta say that the people who keep saying "you're just being impatient" really don't much have a right to say that.
If this was a relatively rare thing, sure, I'd tell people to be patient before complaining. Hell, even if it was once a week I'd understand. But I've seen the server go down LITERALLY EVERY DAY NOW for at least the past week. That is simply unacceptable.
Plus, look at Notch's blog. January 21st:
Much of this week was lost migrating the server to the cloud, something that Tobias did an amazing job working on. Most of the site has been moved now, and seems to be running much faster than before. We’ve got five servers behind a load balancer, and a dedicated server for payment processing, and another for ingame authentication and login, although that won’t be in use until we update the game launcher.
The implication here is that even if the Minecraft website is down, the new launcher should still allow us to log in using the dedicated server. Well, the new launcher is out, and I have not seen any evidence of this being the case. Every time the server goes down, authenticated login is impossible using the new launcher.
No matter how you spin it, this problem really should have been addressed by now. I understand if there are too many people buying the game or accessing the website, but at this point in time, there is absolutely no reason why we shouldn't even be able to access authenticated login from within the game.
Yes, the game is BETA. Like ALL Beta programs, they are test-only. There will be bugs, there will be crashes; there will be folks who leave because they don't like it.
However, I do agree that the Minecraft website is poor. It's down nearly most of the time, despite 's comments.
But, we must remember; there's many players. Plus, Notch is permitted to his own time. He's permitted to take his product offline, to sort it out.
If his company wasn't making millions that might be an acceptable answer... but so far he's made over $26M
and most companies don't even charge for beta...

I'm not usually the one to comment on things like this but I have to, and I have to say this:
Fix your ****ing servers.
The servers have been down for pretty much all day (except for maybe 30 minutes where it was going in and out) and they most likely aren't doing jack crap.
And to all you saying, "Guys he's fixing it calm down." How do you know? He's given no indication that he is fixing it and to our knowledge, him and his team are just chilling at a hotel room spending the money we used to buy this game.
so using an excuse such as them not being prepared for such a huge popularity and flood of people, or still only being a small team, shouldn't really be viable.
Exactly, they've made $26M+ and could easily hire more people. It's starting to sound like they're just being greedy

If this was a small game in BETA that was free, then this level of downtime would be fine.
But its a very popular game and mojang literally have MILLIONS and now they have changed a clause in the T&C they pretty much have a guaranteed future income. Also, has anyone noticed that kickstart page that is going to get them and extra $150,000 in funding?
The least mojang can do is re-invest into the game so the servers aren't always down. As I have seen suggested, they should hire more people if they can't cope, or pay for better servers; they can afford it.
This is a case of mojang dodging its responsibilities and hiding behind BETA, they can't expect us to be fine with the horrible downtime after we have collectively made them a very successful company.
Beta or not by the time a million people have bought your game you probably have a duty to quit trying to run your company like a garage band. At the very least tell your parents to quit running up the door as it's blocking the signal.
Ok, I'm trapped out of my own server again and so do my teammates...
Notch and the Mojang team just lost control of their game since the popularity of this Beta is far beyond any expectation.
The fact the server is down for updates all the F-ing time proves they're working on it, but seriously, is it THAT HARD to communicate?
We have to check about five twitter accounts only to have some single line comment "we're working on stuff - Deal With It".
Mojang guys sure know about games but they don't know SH*T about communication, period. Notch's blog doesn't help :sleep.gif:
I paid for a Beta, it's not finished, nor perfect, got it. But HEY, I'm there to play!!! I played free betas that were at least server-stable...
I know my post is totally useless but I'm sad to see I'm not the only one that has to evacuate anger and frustration somehow.
I feel exactly the same way.
This.
I 150% agree, the server has been down about, hmm 8 hours? And we haven't heard ONE word from Mojang about it? Even if they tried to fix it, they still haven't talked to us, causing the servers to go up, then down, and people to panic. Mojang needs to work on communication, because I know other beta's, which are FREE, go down, but THEY STILL COMMUNICATE.
Solution: Offline Mode, and Bukkit Authorization plugin.
100% uptime, compared to Notch's cereal box servers lol.

Notch could easily afford some servers that would be able to handle this.
I heard there updating to a (BIGGER) Server just chill guys. I mean in last 2 month minecraft has recived tons of new people playing
A bigger server isn't going to solve the problem. Minecraft.net need LOAD BALANCING. Instead of dumping the load on one server it should be spread out across multiple servers.
QFT.

Let's all just ignore the content of posts we quote and just talk out our ass, oh wait.

From Notches twitter from about 12 hours ago ( http://twitter.com/notch/statuses/41434351904374784 ):
I think it will be a while before he will be working on the issue, unless someone stayed behind at his office.

This is not a legitimate argument, and I'm sick and tired of hearing it. The same could be said to the White Knight Brigade.
