I'm aware of the pre-existing fix for this error as I already have a .bat set up to use minecraft sufficiently, but beacuse of this error I'm unable to properly host a SMP server for me and several friends.
You don't have enough RAM to need to increase the amount of memory you use with a .bat file.
What are the contents of the .bat you are trying to launch the server with?
I can launch the server .jar just fine, but I get a timing error or something along those lines.
I simply assumed that it was caused by my original error.
"java -Xms650m -jar "D:\Documents and Settings\-myname-\My Documents\Downloads\SQL\Minecraft.exe"
Everything started breaking a little after a patch in alpha, since then I get the VM error.
It is. So you need to download the jar (which allows you to properly run it with Java, in a way that lets you set the memory amount) and run it with the command.
how do you decrease the memory needed? i have 1GB of RAM, so it keeps complaining about not being able to reserve a big enough heap, or something...

You should really have made your own post, but you just change the number after -Xmx####M (maximum amount) and -Xms####M (minimum amount) when you launch it with the .bat file. Try changing both to 512 (-Xmx512M -Xms512M).
