Whenever I try to launch minecraft I get this error
"Launch4J
The registry refers to a nonexistent java runtime environment installation or the runtime is corrupt. The system cannot find the file specified"
I've uninstalled and reinstalled the latest java and tried both .exes.
and verify if you do have java installed? List any errors you get if you do. Update if it tells you to. Tell me what java version you have.
Once you have verified that you have java installed, and up to date, could you please go to your control panel.
There'll be a java icon there, If you go to the java tab, and click on "view", you can see the path(s) that java is installed in. Could you paste those paths here?
It downloaded the recommended version, but it then informed me that it is incompatible with 64-bit windows. What should I do?
Minecraft still will not run.

Alright. Could you go to your control panel, and look for "Programs and Features" (Add/remove programs in older versions of Windows), uninstall java from there. Reboot, go to:
Exactly same thing is happening to me. It's also making it unable to open and download other programs.
I"ll go to the Java page to download the newest Java and I'll get an error telling me "The registry refers to a nonexistent Java Runtime Environment installation or the runtime is corrupt. The system cannot find the file specified". I do the Java check to see if Java is running and Firefox prompts me to download JRE, which I can't. I go to uninstall Java and I get the same error.
Since I can't open some other files, Shimeji for example, I'm assuming it's the Windows Installer. From the Windows Installer page, none of the versions seem to work on my computer.

Yeah, on that note, but you know what I noticed yesterday? (I'm having a similar problem, mine goes "Could not create the java virtual machine")
I've just had this problem and spent an hour fixing it, as this thread appears at the top of the Google results I thought I'd add my solution here:
1. Search for and delete the 'javasoft' folder in the registry
2. Delete the 'sun' folder in the windows directory and the 'users/appdata' folders
3. delete any 'java' files from 'windows/system32'
4. reinstall
In Oracles attempt to make Java more "User friendly" They no longer let you choose the version of Java you want. They choose for you. It was incredibly hard to find the 64 bit version of the jre. In fact I don't think that the Java site has a direct link at all.
Every time I downloaded Java off of the Java site, it would re-install the 32 bit version of Java on my machine. (Even though I'm running on a 64 bit computer. (Might be because I'm using Google Chrome.)
I had to get a version uploaded to CNET.
Simply download this and install it and your minecraft executable should run fine.
Hello, I was having this same problem. Java was completely not working on my computer, and I wasn't able to reinstall it. When I tried to reinstall, I got the error "This software has already been installed on your computer. Would you like to reinstall it?" and when I hit yes, it gave this error "This action is only valid for products that are currently installed." So I thought that maybe I hadn't completely uninstalled it, so I did all I could with no Java experience to remove it with no success. I ended up googling my problem, and I found a program that fixed my issue, it's located here on a forum I found: http://forums.whatthetech.com/index.php?showtopic=104537 The program itself can be downloaded from here: http://forums.whatthetech.com/index.php?autocom=downloads&showfile=41 From what I understand, this program looks for and deletes Java registry keys so that you can re-install Java properly. After running the program I was able to reinstall Java and Minecraft and all other Java programs worked for me once again :biggrin.gif:
Solution:
1) Download&install Ubuntu from http://www.ubuntu.com
2) Open the Ubuntu Software Center and search for "OpenJDK". Install the first result. Alternatively, open the terminal and type in "sudo apt-get install default-java"
and verify if you do have java installed? List any errors you get if you do. Update if it tells you to. Tell me what java version you have.

Is there anything that I can do?
http://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp

Alright. Could you go to your control panel, and look for "Programs and Features" (Add/remove programs in older versions of Windows), uninstall java from there. Reboot, go to:
http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
And download either link to the windows java installer (one's offline, one's online). Then verify your java install by going to their link.

Any help would be amazing.

Mhm, okay
1. Search for and delete the 'javasoft' folder in the registry
2. Delete the 'sun' folder in the windows directory and the 'users/appdata' folders
3. delete any 'java' files from 'windows/system32'
4. reinstall
I hope that helps anyone with this problem.
i got mass amounts of lag, followed by a game crash and the error message:
Internal exception: java.net.SocketException: Software caused connection abort: recv failed

The issue is Oracle.

There, everything works.
