You could create a simple batch file by opening up Notepad, putting the following code in, and saving it as, say, minecraft.bat:
Put this file in the same directory as your Minecraft.jar file and either double click it or create a shortcut to it. Note: it'll create a command prompt window in addition to the Minecraft window. This window needs to be open as long as Minecraft is running, but it'll close automatically when you're done.
For those with the NoClassDefFoundError issue, make sure you are in the right folder (where your Minecraft.jar is) and that there's nothing wrong with the jar (download a fresh copy to be sure).
Kind of annoyed too because I just want to cheat my inventory and I've died in a lava pit on the in browser version.
Lost all my stuff. :sleep.gif:
And I assume INVEdit doesn't work on the in browser version.
Figures.

1. Unzip it
2. Drag the Minecraft folder to root (C:\)
3. Drag the shortcut to your desktop/start menu
4. Use the shortcut to play
(Feel free to check the batch file if you're one of those paranoid types.)
After closing, I had a file dump with a bunch of errors involving OpenAL and sound stuff, but my sound was fine. Someone above mentioned problems with it not running with the 64 bit file existing... I wonder if something having to do with 64 bit startup settings in the program is causing these problems.
But something has to be wrong about the way the program tries to start without that BAT file on certain computers... cause there's nothing wrong with Java if it loads the website version fine, and loads the offline version fine with these commands, and works with other java stuff fine.
I just wish I could maximize the window without the screen acting like fullscreen, and showing the trademark adminium background behind it like the web page, so dark areas look clearer without the blue sides of the window messing with your perception and making it artificially darker.
EDIT: Oh, and my settings for others' reference, in case this exact setting works for them:
I put memory minimum then maximum. Doing exactly as the vid showed, it finally ran, but dumped an error about the ram, so I set it the same as I have it set in Java's settings in my Control Panel in the Java tab under Java Applet Runtime Settings... though this should be considered a Java application, not applet O_o.
"Could not create the Java Virtual Machine" using the offline program? Solution to the problem: <!-- m -->http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LdSYsGR2wpI Get the JAR version, make BAT. Works on Java 1.5, too.
When i type cd C:\Program Files\Minecraft
into the command prompt it says it wasnt found even though i downloaded minecraft for linux :sad.gif:

I'm sorry for respawning this thread but this worked for me thanks!
I've tried the many methods and nothing works.
Are you sure you're getting this exact error?
How much RAM does your computer have?
HOLY ****! THANK YOU! i had the exact same problem. this needs to be spread around. everyone with bitdefender who baught minecraft is getting confused/frustrated for no reason!
This works for me too, thanks. I am pretty sure this is a 64bit windows thing cause it works fine on my mac, and I tried installing it on another 64bit machine and had the same issue I had with my computer.
Thanks! It opens up now
Unfortunately, since I don't have a premium account..:Skeleton:, I'm using KingAgnostic's auto-updater version WHICH CAN BE FOUND HERE: http://kingsofminecraft.com/forum/index.php?/topic/50-minecraft-beta-launcher-offline-mode/
So since the regular version works, could you make the auto-updater client open up too, please?
Thanks!
Please help
I've tried them all and i still get could not start the java virtual machine.
