Tried everything - downloaded the sound files, downloaded OpenAL32.dll still no luck.
Disconnected my internet connection and clicked 'play offline' - bingo. full sound.
Not sure why and may not work for everone, but worth a shot.
Ok, i've found a temporary patch for the new sound problem
If you disable your internet before launching and then run it in offline mode, you get all your sounds back.
If you have zone alarm, right click the icon tray and then click "stop all internet activity".
Load up minecraft and log in, it will look like it's crashed but it will then ask if you want to run in offline mode, click ok and et voila you have sounds back :smile.gif:
I was soooo close to making a new thread but then I read the rest of this one and saw the fix where you disable your internet temporarily, and it seems to work for me. Before trying this I was getting 'most' of the sounds but I was missing a few common onees like the open door sound and water which was very annoying. I tried downloading some of the sound files people were posting but they didn't really help. Disabling the internet seems the best temporary fix.
I'm still getting that problem of no sound. I think it was around the time of that update but every update henceforth didn't solve anything. Do I have to download a new client? When I click on the music and sound bars in the options menu, the game seems to shut down. When I do it manually form the options txt, the game fails to load to first time, shuts down, and resets the options txt to no sound. How do I solve this????
