I've had it for the last time! Every time I play on my Mac, Minecraft will crash at some point, and if I'm under where any blocks I dug out were at, when I start Minecraft up again, the blocks will respawn on top of me and I will lose everything I had with me at the time. In this last case, 6 Gold and 35 Iron. I paid money for a game that would actually WORK, not destroy everything I have EVERY FIVE MINUTES! If you can fix this, that would be great. Also, if anybody else has any bug problems, feel free to post it here
I'm having the same problem OP. I think its the NVIDIA drivers, because on my other iMac with an ATI card it works better than my frankenstine custom PC.
Only thing is I can't seem to get persister to work well on either machines with audio. I get my inventory to save and all, and the game never crashes, but theres no audio. But then again, this IS an Alpha game so no complaints. We did pay for an unfinished product.
It's a known bug that happens to many.
And yeah, you have paid money for it like the rest of us.
But you also knew that it where in alpha.
This means that there WILL BE BUGS!
And there will continiue to be bugs trough beta.
Games aren't instantly created perfectly (like your pressious macs apparently are)
For the time being, and for awhile now, it hasn't crashed. Might be from last Friday's update or something like that, but it works fine. Although I did fall into lava like a dumbass >.> It still works.... for now
I too am having a problem. In the past week or so I start playing minecraft on my 13-inch macbook pro. Its a 2.53 GHz intel core 2 duo, 4Gb of Ram, and an NVIDIA GeForce 9400m with 256Mb of memory. (I don't know what any of that means. lol). I did download that latest update of OS X Snow leopard 10.6.4 and the last java update I had was in August, before I had the game. Now I have 25.2 of so Mb on my 1st world and maybe 3Mb on my second. I play the game and about 5 or 10 minutes later the game cashes. When I restart the game it takes maybe 1 minute for it to crash again and I can't play now. Im sad :sad.gif: It doesn't matter which save I'm on, it still crashes. And the only other computer I have to play on is the shittiest thing ever. I need help soooooo much. I think notch-> should help with these problems a bit more than the updates.
If this happens again, just quit before you die, open up NBTEdit (or something similar, watch my sig for a mac editor) with Mono and edit your current coordinates to match your spawn. Done. Happened to me 2 or 3 times but the last updates really improved the performance.
Could you tell us your minecraft settings? Maybe you have everything on high and that's a bit too much to handle. Try with fewer details and less maximum sight. Maybe that helps.
You can't defragment any folder/volume on OS X because the system does this while it has nothing else to do. Isn't that a nice feature?:smile.gif:
Cleaned this up again. Remember folks: If you post something in a support thread that doesn't try to help the issue or suggest something stupid("Reformat your computer", "Buy a new computer", "Your [program] is shitty and let me explain why without helping your problem") I will give you a warning and delete your posts.
@G-Man I play render distance-normal, limit framerate-off, and graphics-fast.
Also I have the latest java update if that means anything blus this long code thing shows up when the game crashes, I can post that if you want.
I'm having pretty much the exact same problem with videohead with mostly the same setup except it's just a MacBook (non-Pro) with a 2.4 GHz processor. I get these periods of horrible lag and would sometimes crash. I ran my Activity Monitor while running Minecraft and noticed during these lags that it's using around and somehow over 100% of my CPU which explains why most of my other programs kind of lag a little. I would at least like to know what I can do to prevent this or possibly just inform Notch or anyone else involved to handle this problem.
I also tried playing in the browser, but it would crash before it even gets to any screen.
I, too, have noticed this problem. I think it may be a memory issue. I am running on a 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Mac Mini with 4 GB of RAM. A while back, I had an issue with overheating, and have since been running a temperature monitor on the computer. I've noticed that, during normal operation, the Northbridge chip, which is what the memory goes through, is around 50˚C, but while running Minecraft, it quickly jumps up to 70˚C, peaking around 75˚C before crashing. This led me to believe that it's a memory issue. I then checked on the Activity monitor, and noticed that the memory usage steadily climes, and it appears that it never goes down. So, my theory is that, as Minecraft runs, it doesn't clear the cache as it runs, and so the more you travel, dig, add items into inventory, etc. the more memory is used by Minecraft, and once it reaches a certain amount of memory, it crashes.
When ever I login to minecraft it always loads for 2 seconds then the screen goes black. At first hen I played the game i didn't know how to free the mouse so I always held down the power button and this might have caused the problem. I would appreciate if this bug was fixed so I could play again.
I have noticed a change for sure myself when running minecraft on the brand new macbookpro. It worked perfectly fine in alpha with only some lighting issues compared to my PC but ran great. Now since beta has been released it continues to crash like it is getting overloaded and cant keep up. All the settings are low and just wondering if this is a known problem at the time or not. Game still works perfect on the PC but same problem on the mac anytime i am mining or working on anything big.
It's crashing for me as well, and is especially bad in Beta for this. I've done system level opengl updates and that did make a difference in Alpha however I would point out that the likely culprit inst Mac. It's likely Minecraft or the JRE.
I'm going to ensure that my JRE is as current as it can get and see if that makes a difference. I don't know about you guys but I find it very frustrating to have this great game keep crashing on me. Hopefully it's addressed soon!
Some of the error's that I'm seeing upon crash are Bus error's which clearly indicate that the issue is Minecraft or JRE. I wonder if there is a suggested JRE/JDK version.. I should go check that now >_>
