Just brought this game today, and thought I would try it on my mac. upon generating a map, it looks like this: http://cl.ly/55c3782fc7c11f8922ce
notice how there is a definite red tinge to it. from the little sound I heard from it, the sounds are a mess of garble, screech and static.
also here's what the menu looks like. http://cl.ly/696e96e8760b88c7f33f
I presume it's just my mac, as it's a Ibook.
however on the off-chance that it's not, I would like to know if anyone has a fix for this.
This seems to be a very common problem with Mac users right now. Nobody really knows what is causing it, but it is making the game kind of unplayable at night (blocks are transparent and everything is shaded red).
When Notch gets back from his trip, I am going to personally contact him and try to figure out how to fix this glitch.
Hopefully it's not a compatibility problem with Apple's video drivers.
Checking in on this, any updates? I just bought today after trying on a friend's PC, got home and loaded it up my Mac, menu BG texture is red and then both browser and standalone crash when the world loads. If I can manage to copy the text after the crash I will post, but for right now it seems to pretty much hang and become unusable once anything displays in the 3d scene.
I just bought the game also and I have the exact same problems, it makes the games unplayable cause when it hits night time most of the blocks are transparent also everything is red. I got a Power PC G5 dual core blah blah blah. The game should work since I'm still able to play other games properly. Will keep looking at this post for solutions... cause I really wana play minecraft without all this wrong with it.
Im on a ppc, and I have the same problem, I walked around a bit, but than, i tried quitting, and restarting, to see if that would fix it. Instead it just made it crash as soon as I open that world. It happens both on the downloaded version, and the in browser version. I didnt see anyone else saying their games crashed, so I thought I should post this.

Notch hasn't tested the game on older Macs is all and it doesn't seem to work with certain versions of Java/OpenGL.
As far as I know, Notch is aware of this issue. It's not actually a problem with OS X itself, but a bug in the game's programming. Other java games that use the same graphics engine as Minecraft work just fine. This is something that Notch needs to fix.
Feel free to keep this thread active, though. Maybe Notch or the other devs will see this and be able to gather more information on the issue.
Yep PPC here ol' G5 /cheer
yay if he is able to fix it, otherwise ill have to either get a new comp D:
hopefully its fixed soon, I just want to play it without all this *gestures at the red screen of minecraft*
I'm glad that I'm not alone, but sad that there's no simple fix. PowerPC dual G5 here (also have a PC, but that is afflicted with hyper speed as noted in another thread).
For reference, I recorded a short video of gameplay on the Mac a bit ago. I created this world, picked up a block of sand, then fell into a cave because I couldn't see where I was going. Sound on the video is an accurate representation of what I'm hearing in game:
(and yes, I was mining straight down in hopes that I die and could get back to my spawn point)
For now, placing torches seems to get rid of the transparency, however the red tint is still there. So i guess you can just mine a crapton of coal during the day and then surround your house at night with torches. :c
I'm on an iMac PPC 1.8GHz 1GB RAM and I have the red problem. I don't know if I have the sound problem. Also, I can't get this game to run very fast, I haven't checked the FPS, but it's definitely not 30. Anybody getting it to run smoothly on a ppc?
....I'm kind of upset I just bought this and it doesn't exactly work :sad.gif:
I REALLY hope this gets fixed soon (or at all), because I really like the game
Me too, I bought it because the classic version ran fine on my computer, but this, well 'running' is barely the word for it.
I have a feeling with Apple and other third party devs really ignoring the countless PPC Macs out there that a fix might be beyond Notch.
I realise the dev has been away and busy but I fear this will not be fixed for PPC Macs and a refund is on the cards, which is a shame as it looks like something I can get sucked into.

Working fine on my Win7 laptop but my 6yrold kid is now also addicted and annoyed he can't get it working on his eMac ;-)
