My son started to try to create his own server yesterday. He downloaded the server files onto his laptop, but we decided that runnign a server on his machine on our home network was probably not a good idea - we're just not savvy enough to be sure we're safe.
So we found a tutorial on how to create a server using a free Amazon server and we went thru that process. After he did the install to the Amazon server, he tried to play the game that's on his machine, not the server. And he is getting the "Updating Screen Events" error. The details are below.
I found and copied to his desktop the .minecraft folder in the appdata file, then deleted the contents of that folder, logged back in to Minecraft and it re-downloaded. I tried to create a new world and get the same error. At *some* point in the troubleshooting today, I went into Java settings and enabled both the Public and Private settings, per something I read here (it's been a very long morning, sorry I can't be more specific!)
This is a Win 7 laptop, he is running on a user account; I logged into the machine as admin and made his account an admin in the hopes that there was something blocked that I couldn't see and that didn't seem to make any difference.
Any assistance is greatly appreciated - I know a little about how things work, but please forgive any ignorance and assume I'm not minecraft/computer savvy ;- ) Thanks!
