I want a cheap server to play with a couple of friends, max 5 players. We are pretty hardcore we do a lot of redstone and exploration, so I would love good processing/ram. We are also playing snapshots.
However, I hate Multicraft or whatever, I just want to host a minecraft server like I always did on my own pc, old-school style, java -jar etc. These "helping" platforms only slow me down and I can't find a host that doesn't use them. It probably makes the service more expensive, lol.
Long story short, I just want a sandbox server where I can put whatever I want and set up my minecraft server the way I want.

Hello, if you want a bare linux enviroment then a VPS is perfect for you. We will offer you a vps with nothing but CentOS installed. This would come with multiple benefits such as a dedicated ip, and full control over the operating system opposed to a shared hosting enviroment. Our prices are $4/gb of ram. If you want to take a look please visit our website http://gigahornet.com or add live:alex_11377 so that I can provide more details.
If you want to completely avoid control panels, I recommend going for a VPS from RamNode. You'll need a little background in Linux, but there are great tutorials online for setting up a Minecraft server on Linux, the "old-school" way.
That being said, understand you're getting your own server (virtual server). So there's going to be a higher price attached as apposed to a Minecraft host like myself. If you're okay with taking the plunge into Minecraft hosts, be sure to check us out. If you're interested, I'll happily provide some more information about my company.
I agree on running things without a panel, it's what I do for my personal FTB Infinity server. I'd recommend getting a gaming VPS (or any VPS you're sure will have a good CPU and SSD) and move from there. We offer them and have current discounts running! If you're not familiar with Linux we can help get you started as well
yes, this does sound like a good idea shoozhosting, but you can run one easily on your PC. i preferably use a mac. i think its easier with the port forwarding and all that good stuff
By the way just ask me if you need help on a redstone or command project, i know all about all of that. so feel free to ask. i check the minecraft forums every day for questions so dont be worried if i dont reply. i usually get on the forums until three.
Yes there is actually if you decide to get a normal plain minecraft server that you run on your PC or any other thing that runs minecraft you can look and find these cross platform server .jars on mojang.com look for the snapshots on the main updates page and find the snapshot you want to use and at the bottom of each post you can find the link. Tell me if this helped
