I am preparing to start a 1.7.10 server running well over 100 mods.
This large number of mods will of course require a fair bit of ram. Currently, I am considering 4gb, upgraded when neccessary.
Hardware informaton such as cpu and ram specifications, shared/unshared, burst ram, etc would be nice.
Having in the past seen how much fun a DDoS attack can be, protective capabilities are of concern to me.
While I do not expect 10 mainframes prepared to repel government sponsored attacks, some level of protection is required; one must assume that companies unable to provide information on this are defenseless.
Customer service should be fast, friendly and ready to respond to gremlins at all hours of the day and night.
It is my experience that these little pests will wait for the moment of maximum inconvenience, preferring the hour after all support personnel have gone home for a 3 day weekend or (even better) a 2 week vacation.
US Northwest region would be a good physical location for this server, though there is some flexibility here.
Managed servers and semi-managed servers, while costing more, can save a customer a lot of time. Plugin and mod management are often covered under such plans, either as a one-time event for appropriate fees, or an ongoing subscription. I have seen that some hosts are even willing to assemble and configure modpacks.
Such service options are a primary consideration to me, and are highly desirable. Here is where a company will sell themselves to me, and seal a deal.
