So, me and some friends are making a YouTube group, Minecraft being the game we would play the most. However, even with a group of funny guys, Vanilla gets boring for videos after a certain point. So, I've been looking for any possible way to get a server for just us that we can upload individual mods onto and make a custom "modpack" for videos. It would also be nice if we could add new mods onto the server at any time. If any one knows of a way we could do this, please, please, let me know. As a side note, a free program to record my screen for the purpose of making videos would be appreciated, if you know of one that works with Minecraft. I've tried alot already, and none have worked...

For video recording I use fraps. I am using a laptop and it doesn't affect performance too much. Unless you have a really slow computer then you can use it for any games.
That's nice. But there are two problems. One, the main thing I want is info for how to get a server that i can UPLOAD mods onto, rather than only play specific modpacks. Two, FRAPS isn't free, and that's what I asked for as far as recording.
The program I use for recording and the occasional streaming is called Open Broadcaster Software, or OBS for short. It's free and I know a few popular streamers that use it. You can find their site here.

you could host the server on your own computer assuming you have a decent enough computer to do so and the upload speed to match the number of people
Actually, that was the first thing i tried. I downloaded the server setup thing from minecraft.net, got it running and everything, but then I goofed. I couldn't join the server because I didn't change Server Resource Packs to Enabled instead of Prompt. I kept trying for almost an hour trying to figure out what was wrong (keep in mind i had only bought Minecraft for PC that day) and got no results. So, in a major act of stupidity, i deleted all the files from the server setup thing, and then two to three hours later found out what the problem was. I tried to redownload the server setup, but when I did, one of the crucial steps (specifically typing "stop") was impossible, as the console window would close immediately. So now I'm stuck with making a server or finding a website that does free hosting and allows you to upload individual mods. Unfortunately, the site I am currently using for a server doesn't work either, as it only allows modpacks, and you have to download the launchers and play through them in order to get on the server. So, unless you or anyone else tells me a way to fix the server setup without using a different computer, I'm going to need to use something else.

Coincidentally, OBS was the last one I tried. Didn't work. I couldn't figure out how to get it to record Minecraft. Every time I tried to record, as soon as I clicked anything in the game, fullscreen or not, the recording would freeze then and there. Just imagine what it was like to record thirty minutes of gameplay, end the recording, go to view it before posting, and then find all it recorded was a still image with my voice and occasional sound effects in the background. Now, as for Advantage Servers... Is it free? If not, why are you even here? It clearly states that I want a FREE server. If it is free though, can I upload any number of individual mods I want? And most importantly, is there a stupid survey to take that requires me to be over 18 and own a car? (some other site I tried had that, really ticked me off)

Yes, OBS requires some additional configuration and fine tuning. No, we do not give free servers. The reason I mentioned our hosting was just in case you were interested in giving paid hosting a try. I hate to burst your bubble, but you won't find a decent free server host, it's just not how it works, sorry.
Go to www.neonnode.net to get a server. Its not free, but its the best you'll find! For a modded server, it costs 99 cents a month for a 256MB server with amazing hardware.

I can't imagine running a modded server on 256MB of memory..
