I'm trying to get a rough estimate of hard drive and bandwidth needs for a creative build that I'm resurrecting. Previously it was hosted on a 1.5gb RAM server (that's the only info I can recall on the now defunct server). The world is about 5gb zipped and at most had 20 users building (no mobs, plugins of MCEdit and maybe one or two others). My friend who's offering his hosting service for free is wanting to know want kind of hard drive space and bandwidth we would need.
Well, you said the world is 5 GB zipped. I just zipped a 211 MB world and it reduced to 129 MB. If the compression percentage is similar, the unzipped world would be around 8.2 GB so figure at least 20 GB so you have room to grow. Space is cheap, so I doubt that'll be a problem. For bandwidth, most people say 100 Mb per hour per user so 20 users = 2 Gb per hour which is about half a megabit per second so he's probably fine unless he's on some garbage DSL or something. Seems kind of low to me, but most sites I searched said the 100 meg figure *shrug* Probably want more than 1.5 GB of RAM though.
Howdy!

Is there anyway to estimate this?
Thanks for any help!
