While using numbers may be easy, using words is still easy and better. You may be able to remember the names of blocks and items more than a lot of numbers. You can also press TAB while typing the name to search for alphabetical IDs that match. This may also stop conflicts between mods that use the same ID on items.
Item ID's are really useful and useless at the same time...I can't memorise Item ID's because I don't cheat

People will complain about the smallest things. Ids are more of a annoyance. I have a notepad with Ids of blocks I use when I'm testing out a build. I use to use a plugin on my personal server that uses names instead of Ids. Using names instead of Ids isn't game breaking.
as a modpack maker (for me and my whole class) this will be a GODSEND. for all you people who dislike the change, try to make a modpack with 208 mods, and tell me how you feel then.
I really like this change, it will make mapmaking much easier. Also, you don't need to type minecraft: You can just say /give LofferLogge command_block and it works the same way.
I remembered so many IDs, for example I type /give Johnanater 52 (Spawner) there I have a pig spawner! Now,
I try /give Johnanater 52 . Doesn't work, /give Johnanater minecraft:spawner . I would rather type 52 than minecraft:spawner. I say that Mojang should make vanilla and mod IDs separate and the mod IDs can be mod:Cotton_Candy.
Yea, but the beauty of the new system is that you only type:
/give Joh<tab> m<tab>mob<tab><enter>
An you see: /give Johnanater minecraft:mob_spawner
You only have to type enough to be uniq. And if you don't type enough to be unique, hitting tab twice will show you all the things that match what you typed!

Tab is your friend in this situation. A simple press of Tab will alleviate all the stress an additional second is causing.
The new IDs are easier to remember, especially for new players, than a bunch of random numbers; they're more compatible with mods for the Plugin API (e.g. industrialcraft:machine_block), and TAB autocomplete can be used, albeit if you use the thankfully-optional "minecraft:" prefix. (My one request is that they make TAB autocomplete work without said prefix. It'd make typing things out a lot easier.)
They are.

Apparently map-making is cheating and half-useless.
