That's stupid! Minecraft basically IS a totally different game from what it was in beta! 1.10 doesn't look proper...
Here is the special, magical thing about software version numbers. It is completely, entirely, 100% irrelevant how proper they look to you. Mojang has already said it will be version 1.10. https://twitter.com/Dinnerbone/status/427882146368598016

The problem with the truth, is that it never lies.
There is no rule, every developer gets to call their update w/e they want. Hell, starbound names their updates Koala.
Minecraft, on the other hand , can call their updates w/e they want too. However, their system is quiet illogical ; as 1.10 is the same as 1.1 in basic math..One would think they will call their update 2.0(which is fairly logical), but as confirmed by Mojang themselves, it's 1.10.
Your argument is invalid.
"Updating" Minecraft 2.0 is just like saying Halo 2 instead of Halo (1). They're completely different games. Yes, based on the same thing but different games. When they went from beta to release, they restarted back at 1.1. Not 2.0 because its the same game. It makes more sense to just call it something else. Indev --> Beta --> Release --> ______
That last one alone would send the game straight to v2.0. But I think this is a more likely scenario:
"April 1st 2016
Minecraft 3.14 has been officially released!
[...]
Bugfixes:
- Mobs no longer glitch through fences
- Mobs no longer glitch into solid blocks and suffocate
- Mobs no longer sink into the ground on rare occasions

- Villagers can now be renamed with nametags in single-player

- Boats are properly synced between client and server
- Boats are now stackable (16)
- Fixed soundEvent: none logspam
- Witches no longer generate warnings in the log
- Nearby chunks now load before distant chunks
- Enchanted items no longer magically reappear after breaking
- Enchanted tools at very low durability no longer get mysterious extra durability
- Slimes and squid no longer make footstep sounds
- Axes now cut down melon blocks faster
- Fixed cat and 13 spam in dungeon chests
[...]"
No, it will take longer than that. About six years I say.
I hope that for 1.10 or 2.0 (whatever) they:
-Double the biomes there is now
-Have full mod support
-Have new mobs eg: fish that you can see, a kind of bird, a boss in the overworld (they have one in the end and the nether but none in the overworld) etc
-fix all these bug;

And that's why Beta was Beta. Most of Alpha was also much different than Beta, if only for the lack of biomes for most of its length. (Similarly, "new" Minecraft existed for a short time at the end of Beta's length.) And I'm sure if Beta went on for long enough, there would have been a proper Beta 1.9, and then Beta 1.10. It's just a coincidence that Beta ended with 1.9 (the pre-releases, at least) and then went straight to the release.
