The Light detector is cool it just takes some getting used to and its a bit disapointing that not of the super compact designs are really feasible. On the plus side that means instead of making one for each lamp I will be doing like I did when I used BUD detectors and snaking many underground lines from a central point. Which is perfectly fine, I won't be scared anymore that my light detector will suddenly stop working because a bugfix removed it
love the hopper, I just personally can't really figure put how to make a good automated railway without better detector tracks. As current detector tracks really only give you "cart is here" when it comes to feedback. I really need something to tell me if the cart does or doesn't have items*. Tho since the tracks give a powered output and when a hopper is powered it turns off there would still be no really good way of setting up a hopper to completely unload a cart. It would still be better than the massive timing circuit working on the assumption that every cart is full that we have now.
So for me more feedback tracks would be super awesome.
I'm also with FireKit, I would have loved to have seen a good way to send a signal up walls and being able to color it with dyes to avoid dissimilar close paths from trying to link unless some convergence block was placed would have been a dream come true.
Don't get me wrong, I still think 1.5 is super awesome
*It actually might I'm going to go check to see if they wired the detector rail up like they did the light sensor. To give diminishing output and all. Oh and for diminishing output I would love a resistor block or redstone resistors, to allow you to cut the signal time down and make cuircits that require that type of feedback more compact. STILL AWESOME!
**Nope an empty chest minecart still outuputs a full signal and adding things too it doesn't change the output ~.~ STILL AWESOME!
***Squee but a comparitor does do something YAY!!!!! STILL AWESOME (just more awesome now)
2. Ways to color redstone so it doesn't join with side by side wires of different colors.
3. Redstone coded to be way less laggy.
4. Redstone joiners that allow multi-colored wires to go through the same space at an intersection for massive space saving.
What we got, a bunch of stuff pulled from mods like better than wolves and railcraft. Since this is the redstone update and likely won't be an update theme for a long time. I say, NO, it wasn't worth it because the problems going back into beta, maybe even alpha still exist.
I still say the update was worth it but dying redstone is a simple but brilliant idea.
I think this patch will be one of the best so far, redstone gives a lot of possibilities for people who isn't so lazy to not being able to learn how to use it. Curious thing is that, before 1.5, I didn't even know how to use minecarts, had to learn how to because of the new things, to be frank never found a good use for them, but now they are way more interesting.
I think, though, that adding only redstone block would have been an awesome addition lol
1.4 and 1.5 together have changed everything about map-making. I applaud Mojang for their focus on de-complicating what was sometimes a very complicated pastime. Many good things were added for plain survival in both updates, but the focus has seemed to be on allowing much more customization in items. Many of the things they've done are direct preparation for implementing the mod API.
I wouldn't have it any other way. Cheers, 'Jangsters.

I was expecting these, but I still like the new features. Colored wires would be awesome.
While I really like the new additions I am a little disappointed at what was broken, and I still wish for a few additional things to, vertical redstone, insulated redstone, toggle blocks (1.5 will break the smallest t-flipflops and I've yet to see any as small created for 1.5), and keys/lock blocks.
I don't agree with colored redstone (it's REDstone and it's simplicity is beautiful) but a way to insulate it would be sufficient, I'm thinking glass covered so it acts as a repeater but is still subject to signal degradation that you can see but without the added delay repeaters bring.
I love this new update. With hoppers I can make my storage area sortable, with daylight sensors I can turn redstone lamps in my house on at night, and comparators make good instant wire for my big redstone creations. (I am a intermediate redstone user, the best I've ever done is a tic-tac-toe machine)

I'm confident the lag will go away once they clean up the coding. I'm assuming the lag is caused by updating blocks. I could be wrong though.
The other things I are brilliant, I would like a statement as to why we haven't gotten some of these things. Is it a technical issue or ...?
The last question feels a bit leading. I feel that now was as good of a time as ever to update Redstone- it wasn't urgent, but it didn't need to wait, either.
Anyhow, I think it's quite a nice update. It adds a lot of useful features that should make Redstone machinery simpler to design whilst also opening new avenues for advanced machines.
Despite never testing the snapshots, I must say that I love the hoppers they are putting in. Since I played BTW, I know how much that darn thing revolutionizes your automations like mob farms, wheat farms, sugar cane farms, etc.

Honestly, there are some cool features in 1.5 being added, the new items specifically. Redstone would've recieved an update eventually and seeing as it might've been due for something cool for a while, this fits in well after this long. I don't really feel it was 100% necessary, not the slightest actually. I am glad, however, that there's going to be more balancing in the game due to 1.5. I'm looking forward to future updates with mobs of all sorts, because right now the most dangerous thing is self-inflicted damage and environmental stuff (lava).
More importantly, I want optimisation of the game so it runs smoother and has less bugs. I could really care about content additions if it's going to have dramatic bugs. Minecraft needs the content badly though at this point.
I think it was worth it. I mean, sure it was the "Redstone Update", but I love the minecart updates. It adds more, eh.... whats the word... life(?) to mine systems.
I think the hopper is about the most revolutionary item since hunger. I upgraded, and the ability to send off an inventory in a chart to your base and have it sorted into a neat storage while you continue mining is the biggest timesaver for underground operations yet. Just like when you did not have to hide every night due to monsters when beds came out. I have made a basic layout for a chicken breeder that will supply me with feathers and cooked chicken with no maintenance, apart from the highly occasional refuel of coal. Stone is filling up in chests that once held cobble and a sign "to be done".
Like many people said "the redstone is the most powerful material in minecraft" because with the redstone you can do almost all the things that you want in Minecraft.
Honestly, I would have been fine with a lighting/lag-fix update, however, as a heavy redstone user, I will be more than happy with this update instead.
Or something
