I've killed countless zombies, & still no carrots. Got a few potatoes, but still no damn carrots. I made a drowning trap at a dungeon, killing afk as we speak, but still nothing. No potatoes either, which makes me wonder if niether drops from non-sword-murdered ones.
Anyone else having trouble with this?

I blame Minecraft for the letters on my W, A, S, & D keys being completely gone.
Well that is most likely because it is only a snapshot that is from. It has not been officially put into the game and therefore it will have bugs. And there may be a bug that renders its rarity to be immensely more rare than it should be. There have been bugs very similar to this before. All I'd really have to say is if it isn't a bug, then you're just unlucky.

Ask me anything! (About the Game)... I've basically read the whole wiki site for Minecraft!
Rare drops only drop if you kill them, not if they're killed by environmental damage like drowning. Go out at night where it's plain and you got a clear view with an Iron or Diamond Sword with a level 30 enchantment and hunt down Zombies. This way I got 2 rare drops in one night. Do that a few nights and wham, carrots.

Poor you... i thought that potatoes was more rare as i had found 5 carrots before i found my only potato so far. The best way to get is to go out and fight those zombies and be prepaired to do it for a few nights.
I am having a related problem. When I try to harvest carrots, I always only get 1 carrot. That sort of defeats the purpose of planting them.
You sure that you're waiting until they're all the way grown? There should be orange sticking out at the dirt level if they're ready, I think. If you harvest them at any point before this you'll only get one back.
Also, I just hunt for villages if I want carrots and potatoes. Sounds like it's a lot easier than trying to find all those zombies to kill for some fraction of a percent chance of getting what you want.
Just get a looting sword, and start swingin' at their heads. You'll get one eventually.

My avatar-Madison Gotha. She knows various weapons, she's a mage/sage, and is somewhat immortal. Madison has the capability of taming and communicating monsters, a genetic trait passed down by her father. 26 physically, 1400-something mentally, and a Lofty Peakian/Zenithian mix. Doesn't really like being called an elf and hates being called human..
I might be Moderator, but don't bother treating me too special. And don't make tons of Ban Hammer jokes, please. Also, I'm an Off-Topic only Mod. Don't ask me to lock a thread or something if it's not in the off-topic

Yeah, that's what I did. (But of course, I only tried 2 carrots thus far)

What?
But assuming the snapshot jar copied correctly, it's probably just bad luck.
...but that's just like, my opinion, man.
This. Drowning traps won't work for rare drops.
