People are actually whining about this on Reddit, because they'll have to "replace every single one of their jack-o-lanterns". No wonder Jeb is reluctant to change the terrain generation, LOL.
But there is also an upside to that (if they do actually alter them). Jack-o-lanterns would be the only always on directional light source in minecraft. People will likely find creative uses for this. This also makes me wonder if each side of a block could emit a different light strength? Thus the jack-o-lanterns other sides could glow dimly.
Is it just me or is that furnace emitting a much higher light strength than furnaces usually do?

I don't think so, furnaces have always emited light level 15.

Wiki says 13. I guess I usually always have a furnace in a well lit room so it never seemed quite that bright to me. Gives me an interesting idea though.
We've been over this. Proper mirrors that do more than just reflect light intensity would increase the intensity of the existing rendering engine by 100%. It simple isn't practical.

The Internet is a big place, friend. I've been places you've n͍̺e̩v̦e̦̰͍͓̩ͅr̜̭̝̬̬͉̤̬ ͙ịm̖͇a͍͇̤͙̥g̤̘i͔͖̤̼̪̬n͖͔̳̬̯e̩̘ḓ͈͔̠̙͇̼̯.͎
Accompany this with a light-detector redstone block and you have some epic new mechanisms on the way!
Such a machine would be great for rooms that have tall ceilings. Could act like a sunbeam that could be directed. I really wish that there will be a way to have something produce some sort of moonlight colored light as wall.
If you read Dinnerbones latest tweets, you'll see he also fixed "world black spots." So appearently, he has fixed most if not all lighting bugs, even the ones that happen with half slabs and stairs. Though I dont know if he has fixed the bug where lava and sometimes torches fail to produce light.

Have wanted to make a turning light house for some time...This likely still won't be possible if light beams always tick down with distance.
An infinite beam of light would simply not be possible. A focused beam with a very slow fade would be both possible and, in my opinion, a great addition.
Prism: Block the redirects a beam of light at a right angle. Theoretically possible.
Lens: Takes normal light and turns it into a focused beam. Also possible.
I'm liking this idea.

Apparently they were going to add crystals that would emit different colors of light when a source was placed by it. This was a while ago, but I believe that it could be possible if the lighting engine is further enhanced and RGB colors are implemented.

Knowing Dinnerbone, I would not be shocked if this actually happened.

I agree on the lighthouse bit. A block that sort of combined a beacon and directional lighting like the furnace in the picture would be pretty epic. It could have lighthouse capabilities and floodlight capabilities if used right!

Shiny!->
I was gonna make a cool signature pic...But then I got bored and discovered Dragon Cave.

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
Stupid 3D..

This. All of it.

Or mirrors.

Praise be to Spode.
Prisms or lenses then?

Well RGB lighting seems to be on their to-do list, so we'll see it at some point. But it's not a priority, and I'm completely okay with that.
...but that's just like, my opinion, man.

Sorry, bad joke on my part - I know Etho, I was just pointing out the spelling error. Should've known better!
