So I had read over the bug list before about cobblestone wall's hitbox being changed from the fence. I didn't think much of it until I watched an overview by nativisions where the wall will be made jump-able, meaning you can go over it.
I personally don't like this change. I have a farm that uses this new fence and it blends very well with the look. To hear that this will change in 1.4.3 will mean that mobs can get in with my animals and, because it's on multiplayer, others may jump into my pens and possibly kill my animals easier.
Before you say that I could just change the fencing, I am aware, but I feel that it just takes away from such a diversity. No longer does one have to be restricted to a wooden fence.
And while, yes, I could convince the server provider not to change, all the other bug fixes, I find, are necessary and help the game run even smoother.
So that's my opinion on the new change to these new walls.
I was rather indifferent since I read about this change, but now have to say that I'm for the change. It always bothered me how I couldn't jump over the cobble walls because of how low they are. I found myself unconsciously trying to jump over them and getting slightly frustrated when I couldn't. I realize it sucks for people who are using these walls, and in fact I'll have to change my own animal pen and round up my animals as I recently switched. But the minor issues of such changes will be quickly forgotten.
Considering stone walls have made wooden fences near useless in 1.4.2 because cobblestone is much easier a material to collect en masse than wood, I'd be for the change. I might also consider having double height stone walls anyway for my pens. That might look rather good as well.

A better way to fix that would be to make the cobble stone fence more expensive...
But anyway I prefer the cobblestone wall to be like wooden fence. 1.5 bloc tall.
I will wait before upgrading to 1.4.3 because it seem's to still have many anoying bug for now and anyway 1.4.2 work well for me and all my mod work on it.

This statement bothers me a bit. Fence gates are the same height as the cobblestone walls are yet they're not able to be jumped. Do you try to jump over those too?

Take a look at this image. Notice that the cobble walls are a decent bit lower, and they don't have posts along their entire length like the fences do. The fences seem obvious to me that they can't be jumped over, whereas the cobble walls seem easily surmountable.

I said fence gates, not fences. Fence gates are the same height as a cobblestone wall (without the posts) but is not able to be jumped over.
I could understand this change, if the walls were comlpetely solid when stacked, but they aren't. They look terrible stacked, and serve no point when they aren't stacked.
I won't be using them at all if they stay like this.

I use the FTB modpack, because it's fun, and extremely convenient.

I don't understand this change either. I kind of thought the whole point was to have an aesthitically different looking fence to help mix things up a bit for the players that enjoy building. I'm sure, like all building blocks in MC, there is still some good use for them, but I feel this change does hinder one of it's most obvious uses (as an alternative to wooden fences).
Does any one know what Mojang's rationale behind this change is? because there might be something here that i don't quite understand.

not true they are on par its really only cosmetic.
It's stupid. What's next, waterfalls you can't swim up? Oh. Yeah. This makes Cobblestone walls worthless unless you have cobble to waste for looks. What the heck, Mojang?
The cobblestone fence going from 1.5 tall to 1 tall was a mistake. This has been fixed for 1.4.4pre which is about to release, these fences will return to operating as 1.5 block tall fences again.

I think you'd agree that six sticks is more valuable than six cobblestone? Especially when six sticks produce less fences than six cobblestone do walls?

Anyone else?
I don't even like coffee!
I don't quite comprehend the change.

My bad. I simply read it as fences. Yes, actually, fence gates bothered me at first too. Now I'm used to them.
Praise be to Spode.

well then you will get used to the wall now lets hope it stays the same as now

Because six sticks = a fence is more logical.
And for those who say it looks like you can jump it, they should just edit the block.
Is that sarcasm and/or you really not knowing that's a bug?
Either way, that's also (unintentionally) logical. Let's see you try to swim up Niagara Falls.
