Minecraft, Where every single bloody pixel causes a war within it's community.
But really, I love the idea of mutiple texture packs being installed by default, that would actually make the game a lot better, shut up the complainers, and allow us to have decent looking "normal" texture packs.
Heh. You should have heard the war when they were considering changing the sun/moon from square to round. The fanboys of all things square got their pants in knots and got Notch to change it back to square, even though round won the polls.
Or the Zombie Pigmen having red pixels (blood!). A crap-ton of people complained that blood has no place in MC. Go play Resident Evil or Dead Space, then come back and tell me that little red pixels are terrifying. It's not blood, it's pixels. These people are so fixated on such tiny details.
I fully support any idea to include multiple "standard" texture packs. Because this would allow for the fanboys of the old to go and play with outlined pork chops, and for the fanboys of the new to go play with pork chops without lines. Then the problem would be solved. Dinnerbone? 2 default texture packs, please?
spam their twitters, and make them see that you want the old.
No. Don't do this. Both Dinnerbone, and Jeb_ have made it very clear through twitters and reddit that doing this is counteractive, and actually pushes them further from the desired result.
Tell them that you will not stop spamming them until they tell you yes or no.
They already gave an answer, they changed the old textures to match their new visual style. Seems like a pretty clear answer to me. They saw the numerous polls and complaints, and said, "Whatever. Whatever. I do what I want."
I just laughed so hard I almost choked on coffee. The image alone of a 16 year old, two years from adulthood, taking the time to create these images to spite people on the internet in an debate about computer game textures is one of the most hilarious things to me. Doubly so when you involve the t-shirt in question.
I laughed so hard i almost choked on my Capri Sun. This Reply alone is of some guy likely years from adulthood, taking the time to angrily reply to my comment which he couldnt even realise was a joke and wasn't meant to be taken seriously.
Lighten up, kid.

I wasnt trolling.
I'm honest to god drinking a capri sun.
He insulted me for acting like this at 16, but i make a joke about his age and i'm the bad one?
The rip off head this WAS a joke. want me to explain it?

Not that. The rip off the head thing wasn't funny in the least bit, therefore it isn't a joke.
Ok...
One- The new gravel texture is a lot better than the old static-looking crap texture
Two- Removing the outlines makes the food look more "Appetizing"
Three- Mojang, finish what you started and FIX THE GOLDEN APPLE TEXTURE!

My avatar is a two tailed fox named Miles "Tails" Prower. He may only be 8 years old,but he is a highly skilled engineer. He stands 2'7" tall, and can use his tails to fly short distances, and run at near supersonic speeds.

Allocators are no longer the future, we have Hoppers now. I still like them, though.

The "rip in half the head of the next person who merely says 'texture packs'" meme that seems to have manifested here I feel is a symptom of a deeper sentiment here.
A texture pack is simply a mask that prevents the user from seeing the world how it was originally made to look. This in itself is not a problem at all, but the apparent "need" (note the quotes) to do so might be.
Personally, I use texture packs (specifically an unreleased version of a custom one that I have neglected to update for an entire year) because I want to be surrounded by my own art style (as selfish as that is). The default textures I am lukewarm with, but they can always be better.
The problem is that because of the subjective nature of art, each step in a different direction with the default textures is simultaneously hated and adored by the players, as each person's tastes in visual stimuli is very diverse. In looking at the situation with this mindset, it is very easy to see why hundreds of people would want to protest against the changes in default textures. There are millions of Minecraft players out there. It would almost be unreasonable to say that the undetermined percentage of players could adjust to the texture changes so easily.
So then, where does that leave the ones who just say "texture pack" (and subsequently get their avatar's head ripped in half)? The mindset of most of these types is that they mostly just want the uncomfortable one to shut up and be content. But, is the texture pack solution a valid one? As mentioned in an earlier paragraph, I defined a texture pack as "a mask that prevents the user from seeing the world how it was originally made to look." When a player uses a texture pack, the feeling surrounding particularly different looking textures/items tends to change. what was once the terrifying creeper may now be merely an oddity. What was once a cherished treat may now become less appetizing tidbit. Many Minecraft players wish for the same nostalgic feelings that their favorite blocks and items once gave to them, which some may feel would be taken away by an official re-texture or a texture pack.
The refusal for change in visual stimuli is more often than not, a wish for more nostalgic times to resume. Texture packs are merely a cover-up that most players of this flavor will not accept.
Keep in mind that my musings will not fit with everyone of this disposition, as I did not do my research properly and used too many broad statements.

WOAH, WAIT. Our eyes take pictures? Please tell me I can recover these pictures from another person.
You have to stick a thumb drive up their nose, drag and drop the pictures onto it, and then load them through your ear.
*WHY* did they change these? I dont actually particularly care that they're different, myself.... blasted meat still works the same way, and such.... but I'd be interested in hearing why they thought it was worth spending time changing this (particularly considering this community's usual response to changes, which can be summed up as "HULK SMAAAAAAAAASH")
Just curious, that's all. I dont follow Twitter whatsoever, so if a reason was mentioned, I've not heard it.
I don't follow twitter either, nor am I using the current snap shots, but I think I know why they removed all the outlines (although i am merely speculating here).
We know dinnerbone looks at this forum (because he actually posts here) and BoonvtM has made more than one thread ranting about the new food textures that dinnerbone has likely seen, I think the old food textures were changed to match the new ones.
I think this may have been done more or less out of spite. Not to make the old textures look bad or ruin the game for the players, but to make the point "he who is loudest does not always win".
The level of complaining about new textures that weren't even officially released (this issue was originally about the new carrot and potatoe textures) was extreme and self entitled. And while I actually thought the black outline BoonvtM added to the new textures looked better, the way he demanded the change and the way he got so upset when people disagreed with him in the slightest, made me want him to fail. Given that he has so little support from the player base, I have to wonder why he thinks Mojang would even want to listen to him given his attitude.
Again, this is all speculation, but it is what I think happened, and I find the idea of it hiliarious. I also wonder if it all might be a trolling exercise on Mojang's part, I wouldn't be surprised if the old textures get rolled back to their original appearance when 1.4 is officially released. Either way I wont be any more upset than i was when they changed gravel (i.e. not very much).
Honestly, I don't even care about the textures in any way, I just want BoonvtM to fail, as well. He's a jerk.
Yeah, at this point I'm more annoyed by him continually stirring up a bunch of melodrama for what otherwise would have been a quickly forgotten change. This is one of the most minor changes to the game that I've seen to have such a big reaction from such a small vocal minority. The other time that happened was the group that was against pigs getting snouts.
I dare say that this is bordering on the ridiculousness of that whole debacle, if only because there have been suggestions of tweet spamming Jeb and Dinnerbone over tiny black borders on a few items. That's just uncalled for, by all means. So is making dramatic topic after topic on it.

Huh. I guess the minecraft forums consist of angry nostalgic morons and the people against them.
