I've been seeing a lot of threads lately about people expressing their opinions on how recent updates have stripped Minecraft of its sandbox genre. How the new features are not on par with Minecraft and that they stray away from the original design. I would like to hear everybody's opinions on how this is true.
Minecraft is a sandbox game. It always has and always will be. So why is it that whenever a feature is added may it be a new block or mob or just an item some people are quick to call foul? Arguing that it goes against the design or that it doesn't make the game fun anymore? Why is this? A sand box game by definition is a game where there are no boundaries. It is open world there is no "right way" to play the game. You choose how you want to play it. You choose what you want to do and when. You pick what items and blocks you want to use. Aside from the basic mining tools, every single other item in the Minecraft world is completely optional. As a player you are not obligated in any way to use these items.
Some people say that some features make the game less fun. I want to ask, in what way? Why does the existence of a block in the game prevent you from having fun? Nothing in the game prevents the player from having fun. On the contrary, every single feature added to the game is designed and added in the hopes that it'll make the game better and provide a better experience for you the player.
Other say that some items go against the design of Minecraft. Correct me if I'm wrong. Is there an established limit as to what type of items can be introduced to the game? We have items ranging from simple hand tools all the way to electricity if you want to call it that (some say it's magic). Minecraft is constantly evolving, so why can't the items and blocks evolve with it?
Like I said, I would like to hear everybody's opinions so we can make a discussion out of this. This is my opinion. State yours.
