While 1.8 has been a great update with many new features I think it's time for a smaller update that looks at optimisation and bug fixing, assuming this won't be done in a minor-minor update such as 1.8.2. I say that because I have villagers warping through glass and sheep magically despawning (no, they didn't die to creepers, lightning or griefers, and they were ALL gone and nowhere in sight, I would notice, they're red)
I'd love for an update to be strictly bug fixes & optimization. This probably isn't in the favor of a LOT of minecraft fans, but I'd like to see terraria like updates. And by that I mean, just addings LOADS of stuff you'd never use to make a very large selection of things to choose from.

Oh, yeah, on a server my town's sheep always escape the stables and there are no ways for them to get out. 1.9 should focus on optimization and bug fixes, indeed, with a few side features.

If your meaning mostly bug fixes, thats what they do every .1 .2 and so on.
Havent you already seen the huge list of bug fixes?
Optimization is the key feature, and then bug fixes and other features on the side, basically. The fact that 1.9 is switching Minecraft to shaders and they are adding elbows and knees as a feature in resource packs prove that optimization will be a big part of 1.9.

Mostly because all I really need from this update is a plugin/mod api, fixed up lighting generator, and pretty much anything to make the game look prettier and run faster. I can run the game cleanly on my computer, but by far the biggest complaint about the game (that I have encountered) is having trouble running it. I'm no expert on how to do these things, but assuming it's possible I definitely push for that.
In my view, fixing the lag problems in an update would lead to greater acceptance of added features in the future. Half of the complaining that happens when the game updates is bug/lag related.
Also, as a side note, I have yet to update to 1.8 simply because most mods are still broken. Adding a mod API as well as a plugin API would do wonders for the games' server communities.

I don't see why we need that. There have been several versions that never got to "1.X.10". For instance, beta 1.7 only got to b1.7.3 before b1.8 came out. And I'm not talking about release, it's beta. Nevertheless there have been release versions that never got to 1.X.10. So....yeah.

As far as I know only 1.7 got to the X.X.10 mark.

So mojang still owns minecraft, i didnt think thats how it worked, sorry for being a noob.
I still think it depends on how they think it through, and, of course, it may lag.
What i think you need to know though, is that either way some players are not going to be happy with the update, it just comes with being a living person, just deal with it.
I pretty much agree. I get much more FPS with 1.8 than I do 1.7 optifine/no optifine
Ya, 1.8 lagged a bit on my laptop, but not as much on my grandparent's Windows 8. Plus, 1.8.1 fixed a ton of bugs and lag that 1.8 added.

FOR THE LAST TIME!!!! Microsoft owns Mojang not Minecraft! Mojang still has complete control!
OT: I personally think 1.9 should be huge like 1.8. I play the snapshots so I really don't mind waiting.

Microsoft owns Mojang, and Mojang owns Minecraft so Microsoft owns Minecraft.
They can do whatever they want with it, they can shut it all down if they want.

Mojang owns Minecraft. Microsoft owns Mojang. The Community IS Minecraft. So basicly
Microsoft>Mojang>Minecraft=Community
