Damnit. You guys sold out. This must explain the giant ad banners. I also checked out curse's privacy policy, and what did I find? They never said they keep your information private, and, in fact, they even stated that they share your information with third party advertisers. They will slowly, but surely, take over this forum and shape it into whatever they want. As soon as the chance comes up, become independent again. Curse WILL become the wikia of forums. Look forward to this place covered in ads, the “you are now leaving” ad, and the “too often to be random” full page ad.
Have you read OUR privacy policy? It says the same thing...
Funny how many of the people on here saying that this is a bad move have admittedly only heard of curse from this announcement, and looked at the front page for a minute.
As a WoW player (22 btw, youd be surprised how many people play that game are adults), ive been using curse for years. I have the curse client on my computer for managing my wow mods, and am not a premium member. I have never had any problems with curse. They do not take over the sites they partner with, but generally leave them to do their thing. Sure some more ads are placed, but they gotta pay for those robust servers somehow, getting some sort of adblocker will take care of that.
As for the people crying about 12 year olds flooding the forums, thats already the age group that the majority of our members are in anyway. People who arent interested in this game arent gonna come here anyway.
This is a move that will only benefit us in the long run. Of course there will be some drama when the actual switch occurs, but ultimately, we will have forums that can support a much higher traffic load than they currently do.
Pre-emptive edit: Maybe once we switch things will actually get posted when i hit that submit button. Its by far the most annoying thing i have encountered on any forum.

:tongue.gif: I hate curse, but for personal reasons and they ignored me when i submitted complaints someone was using their PM system for phishing. Also they tried to shove the premium membership down my throat(The Curse updater for wow, they "offered" the premium for a year, but it was cut short 3 months for me, opened it and suddenly got tons of "This feature is for premium only". Went with another site that offered a simpler GUI with a single advertisement on it instead of the spam of ads i remember with curse.)
I guess my grudge against curse is their overuse of advertisements and the fact that i entered into countless contests and never won a thing.
On a positive note, the support of curse will help you when you get 100 hits a second because of a big minecraft update/

Nothing is private anymore. I have 2 email addresses, 1 for the world, and 1 "serious" one for resume's/job apps. You cannot hide from advertisement. Everyone has something to sell. Just running your eyes across something that someone is selling is money in the bank, to them. This is the way of things as of now, and, fortunately, Minecraft is a WONDERFUL escape from that.
Nothing like being ran by the Activision of websites. Like a cow walking blindly into the slaughterhouse, completely unaware of where it's going.
Curse = Not good people
I've had lots of experience and dealing with them. They are a bad company. The sooner you realize what **** you've got yourself into, the better. Here's hoping you didn't sign yourself into a contract you can't get out of.

We have signed contracts with Curse that keep us here for quite some time.
WELP NEVERMIND. LOOKS LIKE YOU SCREWED YOURSELF. Good job.
I don't see why you guys are so angry. WE WILL BE ABLE TO BROWSE THE FORUMS WHEN AN UPDATE IS RELEASED NOW. That is all I care about, because I have nothing else to do well minecraft crashes over and over again trying to update.
What about Curse's Real Money Trade (RMT) connections? They are sort of known in the World of Warcraft gold-selling community as a good data source. Does this mean the forum will support Real money Trading and so forth for Minecraft, or that our data will be sold or otherwise used for the RMT trade without our consent?
I've read up a bit and can see some pros and cons
pros
cons
Maybe having browser to mc mod dl, less .rar .jar stuff
Banner ads, nothing that cannot be fixed but is still annoying (ABP and NoScript)
Actually able to browse during updates, means more server support
The community might have less voice.
Curse can potentially HELP minecraft, but to help or hurt is their choice.
All-in-all, I see curse now as a potential threat, but they could do good with that power, hope they do.

Can you provide some links for me - Google is apparently hiding those 'connections'

The Minecraft community being sold out to a network that primarily operates Blizzard games? The same Blizzard games that have the community that tells people to go disembowel themselves with a scalpel because they have bad imaginary equipment or aren't in a certain tier of gameplay? I can tell we'll have a lovely community in no time when Curse links to us.

It seems that most complaints come from people who have no dealing with Curse. The people who have dealt with them (by and large) have only good things to say.
People who have had dealing with Curse? You mean like downloading tons of viruses from the Curse Client? About once every year some ignorant jackass infects a popular addon or two with trojans, spyware, viruses, and sometimes even rootkits, generally when a new patch comes out. Then, everybody who has the Curse Client and doesn't realise what has happened for whatever reasons will download it. Having happily used Curse for the last time, they at last switch to WoW Matrix, only to find that it's shut down a week after they heard of it because it was eating Curse's precious bandwidth. You think people like that by and large have only good things to say?
Maybe it's a necessary evil to join with Curse, I don't know. I'm not the one running this site, and I don't know the circumstances. All I can say is that I hope things like that never happen to Minecraft, and best of luck to the people running the forums/wiki, for creating what currently is and what hopefully stays as a good community.

Completely innocent sites like Wowhead are used for bad purposes, like in its case, private servers and item Display IDs specifically. Didn't know they used Curse as well, and I still don't know for what purpose, but it wouldn't really surprise me.
Side note to the admins who are in this topic: why does the forum constantly eat up my posts? I'll preview it a few times to get things right and submit it, to find myself back in the topic without my reply. I generally have to copy and paste my posts to stop myself from losing long ones.

I urge you to read the entirety of this thread. We do not OWN minecraft. We do not run minecraft.net. We (nor curse for that matter) have ANY intention of doing anything with the Curse client. No where was it ever stated that curse would be integrating ANYTHING minecraft related into it's client. They are simply taking over the ownership of the forums in wiki. In return, they are providing us with a MUCH more stable array of servers to do our work on.
Also, as far as the posts disappearing when you post, we're working on that. It's hard to track down since it's seemingly random.

Touche! We probably should. Although to be fair, mint is located locally http://minecraftforum.net/mint.
