I really don't understand why mojang doesn't allow us to do this in the first place... I mean, as long as I bought Minecraft, why the hell would i not be able to play in a older version? WHy is this rule here in the first place? Weird, I hope Notch either cahnges it or justifies it in the future.
i dont know if you guys noticed this but if you dont delete the last login file from the .minecraft folder and you upload it people will be able to play on YOUR account
i may have missed something but what ever
This does bring up an interesting idea, that perhaps maybe Mojang should continue to host the previous version alongside of the current version, so that people that wish to go back to the older update (and didn't think to back it up) can log into the site and download it.
And then when everyone goes back to the older update because they miss their mods and what worked and what didn't nothing gets fixed in the newer update and the bugs go unnoticed. This is why the new updates are forced.

I figured I might as well build a giant cobblestone tower right next to your house. Because I wanted people to think your house looked crappy.
New updates shouldn't be forced.
I paid for 1.3. That's what I want to play, not 1.4.
It's like me buying a shirt, then the store swaps it for another one.
I want the shirt I paid for, not some new shirt the company thinks I'll like better.
It'd be great if previous versions were available on the official site. I don't want to have to pirate a game I already paid for just to get it functioning properly, you dig?

PS I have an origin story of minecraft:
Once pigmen and men lived in harmony, the pigmen sharing their technology with all.
Until, one day, the zombie virus broke out. It was made by the evil pigman scientist Refeirg who hated all humans.
He also made a living plant made to explode when it got near a human.
As humans were mutated by the virus, pigmen, who were partially immune to the disease, escaped into the nether, but, before they left they trapped many of the monsters in magical cages. Unfortunately, the cages slowly leaked out monsters from time to time. As the virus continued to mutate, more monsters were formed.
The sole survivor of the incident was a miner named Steve, who had been in a cavern at the time. Steve is now the worlds only hope for survival.

Why is this, even if you have the .JAR, you still need to have a subscription right? Also, Its impossible to get older copies, Mojang doesn't document them. Also, torrenting isn't illegal. The More You Know :smile.gif:

Torrenting may not be illegal, but redistribution of Minecraft, or any proprietary software, is illegal, whether via torrent or not.

i thought the jar wont work without the launcher
I'm certain there's some way to run it without the launcher. Of course, it's probably illegal too.
its about time this was cracked down on. there is no excuse whatsoever for attemping to distribute the files.
Minecraft is one of the best VALUE for money games I've EVER seen.
Piracy threads should get an instant perma ip ban in my opinion.
Piracy IS a perma ban, now that this issue has been made even more known about the mods won't have to be as lenient.

IP bans are generally infective and a bad idea when applied to real people (as opposed to spam bots). Most people don't have static IPs and even if they did, a trip to the local free wi-fi will get you a different IP. (And banning -that- IP would be really bad as you would have effectively banned the entire wi-fi hotspot)

By that logic, it should always be available in the form the person paid for it.

Retired StaffOn-topic:
I think it would be kind of neat if given the choice to rollback to previous versions. Not that I don't like the current version...
