Since the beginning of the forum we have always had the rule that users must not redistribute copies of the Minecraft files. This includes current and old versions, the only place users should be able to download copies of the Minecraft files should be minecraft.net (or any other official Mojang website).
After the 1.4 update we've noticed a huge rise in people uploading 1.3 and posting it here for download. This is NOT allowed and as is outlined in the rules, will result in a ban. We've been lenient and only given out 7 day bans for it, but we will extend these to permanent bans if people continue.
It is clearly outlined in both our rules and the minecraft terms of service (under "The one major rule") that this is unacceptable.
This does bring up an interesting idea, that perhaps maybe Mojang should continue to host the previous version alongside of the current version, so that people that wish to go back to the older update (and didn't think to back it up) can log into the site and download it.
Maybe you should consider uploading older versions. There is no harm in it, the game is unplayable without an account (or crack). And by baning users for sharing the older version on your forums you will only send them to other download sites like piratebay and such that actually let you download the cracked version so you dont even have to pay for an account.
You seriously SHOULD host 1.3 on the site. Especially since the 1.4 update completely breaks multiplayer. The whole reason myself and a friend paid for the game. I'm extremely dissapointed that the only thing we get from the company staff is about not uploading 1.3 and not even a mention that you are working on the lag problem. I was excited about buying this game, now i'm seriously re-thinking supporting indie development in the future. All the posts about 1.4 and we as customers don't even warrent a simple "We are aware of the problem". What i don't understand is how did such a glaring thing go un-noticed?
Anyhow, don't take my tone to be that i hate the company and that i am furious, I love what you guys have done, when i play minecraft i feel like this is the game i have dreamt about in my subconcious all my life.
I really wanted to support what you do but am just really dissapointed that you care more about policing uploads of 1.3 than doing something about 1.4 People are frustrated and want to play a game they paid for. At least give us 1.3 back until you fix 1.4.
If there is in fact work being done to fix the issues, then thank you. But just let us know that it is.
I think that's fair and if you have time to make posts about not uploading 1.3, then you have the time to give us such a post. Thanks.
Good, I'm glad that you told the poeple of these forums this because I see it al the time where people are distrubiting the files. I hope that it don't get to the point where one can't download the EXE to play it with out internet because of all these other "bad apples" because I bring my laptop out of town and I like to play on my main world on my free time!!

I'm not sure why people are freaking out about 1.4. Both servers that I admin on are already back up with 1.4. If a server isn't up it's the admins fault, not notch's and not anybody else's.
How do you get the option to install updates? When I logged in recently, it automatically upgraded me to 1.4.
Download the latest launcher.
The new launcher doesn't seem to be any different than the one I was using. There are no extra features or options to choose whether to allow updates or not and I was forced to update as well. I don't mind, I'm just wondering if anything has actually changed from the 1.3 launcher?
It is illegal to upload it, please read the Digital Millennium Copyright Act and the Minecraft Eula
That may be true, but because of that illegal sites are more likely to be able to give it out without paying. I think there SHOULD be an official site somewhere in the Minecraft servers that allows paid users to download previous versions should an upgrade be potentially bugged in some way, or its incompatible with their system for reasons unknown. Maybe, for what ever reason, a person wants to play around with the older alpha versions, this would allow them to do that, and possibly see the different steps Minecraft has taken over the duration its been worked on and developed to reach beta. This would at least further prevent users from trying to give it out themselves.
For those suggesting someone have an archive of older versions you should email mojang or use another means of contact to suggest it to them instead of posting here.

I am playing multi-player just fine?
The "league of nerds" at my college started a dedicated server, and it's working great in 1.4 even if some ones fools day joke killed all my wolves! : (
Aye, this is no matter of discution, but I wish to give my point of view:
It is a pity that humans can not be trusted. If we could, and if we were all honest people, then it would be acceptable. However, it is not the case, so we shouldn't. Voilà. Good day to you.

Well, you can't blame citricsquid or any other staff member for this stuff. It is simply against the law to do that kind of stuff stated above.
What I'm angry about is you havent fixed the intel graphics card problem yet .
I fixed that problem by using the driver provided by intel instead of the one provided by my computer's manufacturer.
If the intel graphics problem only happens on the download launcher, then using intel's version of the drive should fix it for everyone.
I've never had a graphics problem with my intel card and using the browser client, even when I had the graphics driver coming from my computer's manufacturer.
