Why is this taking so long?....... Is the forum understaffed or what?
Are there no programmers to fix these issues?
I do web development/programming professionally, and well... there is no reason for the search feature to be broken for so long unless there is simply just no one to solve the issue.
In which case, I'd be glad to volunteer to fix the issue for you... I work with PHP, javascript, SQL, etc. every day.
Maybe I'm stepping out of place to say this... but seriously, there is no reason for the search feature to be disabled for this long. I'm sure it is forcing people to leave and find other places to hang out for minecraft info... and obviously you've all noticed the modding is already slowly moving to mcmodcenter.net.
If this forum can't maintain itself, there won't be anyone left here to use it...
our developers are busy working on the new forum, their time is better spent working for the future instead of putting bandaid solutions on this awful software (phpbb).
*gasp*! New forum? Nice! Probably old news, but it's news to me! Nice! :smile.gif:

Helps if you keep your software up to date.
If your board is affected by bugs already fixed and are complaining about them and haven't even bothered updating, the problem lies with you -- not the software.
It is that way with every bulletin board software (hell, extend that to every web application), and if you can't accept the fact that software needs to be kept up to date, I ask that you get out of site and server administration as soon as possible. The internet has enough systems being constantly exploited by crackers, skiddies, and botnets in this day and age; we don't need your team adding to that.

The search still being down is quite a roadblock for me to use the forums. I thought it was going to be fixed soon, but it seems it will never be fixed.

When I first saw the tread and read ‘temporarily’ I thought it was gona be a few hours or max a day.
But I’m really starting to miss that little function; it seems it stopped a lot of unnecessary posts.
And without it new treads of already discussed subjects keep popping up a lot more then usually.

Thank you for the response. I did not really expect to get one... lol
In any case, I still think it would be a worthy time investment to simply just patch the search.
And no offense, but... how is it to suggest that a very popular software, that is open-source, free, and maintained by the open-source community is 'awful software', especially compared to what you may use as new forum software, that has yet to be tested at full pace?
Are you really suggesting that the phpbb software is to be blamed for all the problems here, when many other websites that run the same software, have not had these problems? And when concepts, such as a working search feature, are forfeited to make way for the new software?
I'm not trying to disrespect anyone working on this site, but I do think someone needs to own up to the problems and not brush them aside in hopes that replacing the software will fix all the problems that this site is having...
Anyway, that's all I have to say about that. Again, I mean no disrespect... I'm a web developer myself and I also run into problems like this stuff everyday. So I do understand the issues. I just wanted to acknowledge that I think they could be handled a little better... Of course, it's not my site and I don't know all the issues at hand... it's just something to think about.
Edit: Oh, and I REALLY hope the new forum isn't using ASP.... *sigh* Slow code is slow.
Take a look at how phpbb works, you'll agree it's terrible. No large site uses phpbb with out either dedicating ridiculous amounts of resources to it or has modified it. the best example of why it sucks: phpbb loads the stylesheet for the theme from the database, wtf? We have over 80,000,000 page views per month to the forum alone, we handle incredible amounts of traffic, more so than 99% of websites.

Well, my point was that it is open-source and that the developers could have changed this themselves.
I know it's 'unneeded work', but if that were originally an issue it wouldn't have been as big of a deal to change it then and not worry about it later...
...But yeah... I hope the new forum works better for you guys... :smile.gif:

I have nothing to do with the software here.
